Description
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for assisting, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for patients in Emergency. The major responsibilities are providing leadership, monitoring the work environment, assuring quality, and ensuring the delivery of competent clinical practice.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Demonstrates competence in the clinical skills required for patient care while applying nursing knowledge and skills to clinical situations and assumes ownership for achieving patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and priority setting in complex patient care situations.
  • Provides direct patient care by evaluating the medical complaint or current symptoms and report to physician.
    Works directly under physicians, assisting them during exams, procedures, diagnostic testing, and treatments.
    Per physician's orders performs IV initiation/infusion/therapy, blood draws, cardiac monitoring, pulse oximetry, applies oxygen, administers nebulized treatment, cleans and bandages wounds, applies splints, and provides basic bedside care.
  • Assists Administrator in reporting death/time of, in the emergency room as needed.
  • Demonstrates competence in the clinical skills required for patient care while applying nursing knowledge and skills to clinical situations and assumes ownership for achieving patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and priority setting in complex patient care situations.
  • Assess the health care needs of the patient and maintain or develop a plan of care.
  • Assess and act on significant changes in the patient's health condition.
  • Carry out or assign Unit RN the plan of care by performing delegated tasks.
  • Collect and document pertinent data into the electronic patient/ medical record.
  • Complete nursing assessments within required time frames, and in accordance with policy and procedure
  • Identify and act on predictable needs of the patient.
  • Recognizes and effectively treats life-threatening conditions.
  • Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments. This includes pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients and the general patient population.
  • Uses triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients. Accurately assigns triage categories.
  • Follows up in a timely manner in response to all patient's/ family concerns including communication with administrator on site.
  • Assists with admission and discharge processes to ensure efficient throughput and high quality, patient-centered care.
  • Participate in the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in the unit, in collaboration with other members of the management team.
  • Notify assigned physician of any changes in condition.
  • Supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the hospital.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS
  • ER nursing: 2 years (Required)
  • 2 yrs Hospital/Acute Care Setting
  • ADN, BSN Required
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Current Texas RN License
  • EMERGENCY ROOM, CCU, ICU Experience
  • Ability to triage timely and accurately in all emergency situations.
  • TNCC, ENA, NRP is preferred not required.
  • Emergency Nurse Certification (CEN), granted by the Emergency Nurses Association, preferred.
  • BLS, CPR, ACLS, PALS required. Current BLS at time of hire
EDUCATION
  • ADN, BSN Required
  • Master's Degree preferred
CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE
  • Current Texas RN License
  • BLS, CPR, ACLS, PALS required. Current BLS at time of hire
  • Emergency Nurse Certification (CEN), granted by the Emergency Nurses Association, preferred.
  • BLS, CPR, ACLS, PALS required. Current BLS at time of hire
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to triage timely and accurately in all emergency situations.
  • Ability to meet the emotional and spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Be able to carry out the plan of care by performing/assigning delegated tasks.
  • Complete nursing assessments within required time frames, and in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Identify and act on predictable needs of the patient.
  • Ability to meet the health care needs of patient by assessing and assisting the patient to meet expressed needs.
