Job Summary:

The Operating Room Technician performs the scrubbing duties for operative procedures and assists the surgeon and Registered Nurse circulator as directed. The Operating Room Technician is responsible to the unit supervisor for assigned operating room.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency
  • Graduation from an accredited surgical technician training program or an equivalent
  • training program (i.e. military, hospital etc.) is recommended.
  • BCLS certification
  • Evidence of 2 years of current operating room scrub experience
  • Knowledge of surgical instruments, suture material, power and specialty equipment, drug
  • and supply terminology
  • Able to perform the capabilities of the job (see attached)
  • Meet minimum proficiency on Skills Checklist

Responsibilities:

  • Cooperatively participates in patient care activities with co-workers.
  • Demonstrate integrity by adhering to the highest standards of ethical behavior.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Participates in case preparation.
  • Establishes and maintains sterile field; recognizes breaks in aseptic technique and
  • responds appropriately.
  • Consistently uses standard precautions and protective equipment.
  • Knowledge of passing instruments, sutures and other supplies in any and all surgical
  • procedures.
  • Correctly identifies surgical instruments, their care, storage and sterilization.
  • Keeps informed of changes in practice and attends in-services when offered.
  • Maintains and controls all surgical equipment and supplies, checks for expiration dates
  • on trays, supplies and equipment.
  • Gathers appropriate equipment, supplies and instruments, checks equipment for safety
  • and opens sterile supplies with proper technique.
  • Assists in the preparation of the operative site and assists with the proper and safe
  • positioning of the patient on the operating room table.
  • Assists the surgical team with the donning of surgical gowns, self-gowns, set up of sterile
  • field, assists with draping the patient and accounts for all surgical items used on the
  • sterile field.
  • Passes instruments, sutures and supplies to the operative team for all surgical specialties.
  • Safely breaks down the contaminated set up after completion of the case in a manner that
  • prevents the spread of contamination.
  • Safely operates steam autoclaves, mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Assists in the transport of the patient both to and from the Operating Room.
  • The technician may not provide patient services that require the skill of a licensed nurse.

Instrument Room Technician Job Description

Job Summary:

The instrument room technician cleans surgical instruments, assembles operative trays and sterilizes instrument trays. The technician is responsible to the unit supervisor for assigned sterile processing.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency
  • BCLS certification
  • Evidence of 2 years of current instrument room, sterile processing and/or central supplies

Labor & Delivery Technician Job Description

Job Summary:

The L & D technician functions as a member of the health care team and performs selected patient care activities under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse, is responsible for identified critical unit support activities and identified critical clerical/administrative functions as directed. This employee must be able to maintain proper aseptic techniques to prevent contamination and infection. To assist the surgical team as the sterile member who passes instruments, sutures and sponges during surgery and to assist in all forms of labor and delivery procedures as necessary. Is responsible for reporting any identified safety issues.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency
  • BCLS certification
  • Evidence of a minimum of 1 year of current experience.
  • Knowledge of surgical instruments, suture material, power and specialty equipment
  • Able to perform the capabilities of the job (see attached)
  • Meet minimum proficiency on Skills Checklist

  • Follows direction of registered nurse.
