Advanced Personnel Resources is recruiting senior-level accounting professionals for a new Controller opportunity with our client located in Greensboro, NC.

Job Summary

The Financial Controller will oversee all financial aspects of our company, including financial planning, reporting, and analysis. This role involves managing accounting operations, preparing financial statements, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction finance and a keen eye for detail.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

• Oversee all company bank, credit card and investment accounts and perform account reconciliations each month.
• Create monthly and annual reports to identify results, trends, and financial forecasts.
• Manage cash flow by tracking transactions and regularly reviewing internal reports.
• Provide insights to leadership team to inform strategic decisions and key investments.

Budgeting and Forecasting

• In collaboration with the leadership team, develop and manage annual budgets.
• Present periodic comparisons of budget vs actual results to the leadership team.

Accounting Operations

• Train and manage accounting staff members.
• Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes by defining roles and timeline and holding team members accountable for assigned duties.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and sales tax functions.
• Supervise physical inventory counts and maintain accurate inventory level reporting.

Compliance and Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations.
• Maintain and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets.
• Communicate and collaborate with external auditors and tax return preparers to and ensure timely completion of audits.

Financial Strategy and Planning

• Advise on investment activities and provide strategies for financial growth.
• Develop and implement financial policies and procedures.
• Assess and manage financial risks and opportunities for the company.

Project Management Support

• Collaborate with project managers and estimators to track job costs.
• Provide financial guidance on job estimates and contract negotiations.
• Perform job percentage of completion estimate and calculate job over/under billings each month.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a financial management role, preferably within the construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of construction finance, accrual accounting principles, and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in accounting software, excellent Excel skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Your resume will rise to the top if you have used Foundation Software or another construction-specific accounting software.
