Advancing Opportunities is Hiring a COMMUNITY SUPPORT SPECIALIST Near Parsippany, NJ

Advancing Opportunities is currently seeking a part-time Coordinator of Community Supports for Parents Night out for youth with disabilities and their families.

Experience necessary Bachelors in Human Services and/or equivalent experience working with persons with disabilities and community events planning or fundraising a plus

As a Part-time Coordinator of the Parent's Night Out Program you'll be responsible for planning the Parent's Night Out Program and the supervision of program staff. The Coordinator of Parent's Night Out provides direct services for participating families.

Advancing Opportunities employees are expected to maintain a good working relationship with individuals served, contract agencies, third party players, other social service provider personnel, families, Advancing Opportunities staff and other Advancing Opportunities stakeholders. In addition, Advancing Opportunities members are expected to exercise good judgment and problem-solving skills, function as liaisons to other Advancing Opportunities agency programs, and represent Advancing Opportunities in a professional manner.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent judgment, problem solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with individuals with disabilities, families, co-workers, staff, supervisors, funding sources, and other social service agency personnel.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or other relevant computer software as these relate to job responsibilities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Recruiting, training, and supervising Parent's Night Out Staff.
  • Planning Parent's Night Out Program for consumers and their siblings.
  • Providing intake and timely processing of all necessary paperwork from families.
  • Developing and implementing Individual Support Plans for all program participants, in collaboration with families and community recreation providers.
  • Maintaining regular contact with participating families and making adjustments to Individual Support Plans as needed.
  • Keeping accurate records (including customer satisfaction surveys) and attending all staff meetings.
  • Timely preparation and submission of monthly reports as required by Advancing Opportunities and in compliance with DDD requirements.
  • Scheduling an intake/assessment within 14 days of a DDD referral contact individual/family which must be completed within 30 days of initial contact.
  • Maintaining a pool of staff to support program's capacity in each county.
  • Developing new program sites by actively contacting community organizations.
  • If program enrollment is low for a specific date after the registration deadline, contacting families to see if they are interested in attending.
  • Traveling throughout Warren, Sussex, and Morris counties on a regular basis
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by immediate supervisor, Family Support Senior Director, or Chief Executive Officer.
