The role you’ll contribute:

A laboratory position responsible for performing waived- to moderate-complexity testing as defined by CLIA regulations and laboratory policy in an accurate and timely manner. Works under the direct supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Technician, or Laboratory Leadership. May perform phlebotomy and clinical and/or pathology specimen management duties as required.

  • Handles inquiries and resolves complaints related to laboratory service and information promptly, effectively, and appropriately. Keeps a customer service approach by following through on such inquiries and complaints and refers to laboratory leaders or other department as appropriate. May serve as a department initial point-of-contact for pathologists and coordination of procedure scheduling.
  • Communicates effectively to coworkers, providers and other departments through timely notification of critical and significant results and findings, within shift and shift-to-shift communication, laboratory huddles, occurrence reports, email and other manners to ensure continuity of laboratory operations and patient care.
  • Actively promotes a positive, team-oriented environment that contributes to laboratory, hospital and Centura Health goals and reflects the mission and values of the system. Shows a service-conscious attitude by keeping respect and service in mind during interactions with others, including coworkers, patients, and other departments and professionals.
  • Exhibits integrity and stewardship through a strong commitment to following laboratory and hospital policies, procedures, and guidelines. Ensures compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency standards and requirements as interpreted through these policies and procedures.
  • May provide input for opportunities to improve service, quality, productivity, workflows, supply management, and cost containment.
  • Acts as a steward of finances through appropriate use of supplies, materials, and productive activities.
  • Performs venous, capillary, urine drug screen, swab, or other specimen collection as defined by site. Receives specimens, assess priority, assures appropriate specimen identification, and appropriate specimen type. May include ordering and processing of hospital registered and outreach patients. Centrifuges, aliquots, and distributes samples to appropriate testing area.
  • Under the direct supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), generates and reports CLIA waived and moderate complexity test results as defined by laboratory policy. Responsible for operation, quality control, minor maintenance that involves clear guidelines, and limited troubleshooting of testing-related processes, equipment and instrumentation, along with the appropriate documentation required. Monitors for test system performance variance and takes corrective action as necessary.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency with laboratory information systems. Compiles and reviews LIS or other reports to ensure all samples are collected, processed and tested in appropriate time frame.

Education:

  • HS Diploma or GED

Preferred qualifications:

  • Previous clinical laboratory experience
  • Licensure, Certification or Registration
  • MLA (ASCP) or Phlebotomy certification, such as PBT (ASCP) or equivalent certification
