The role you’ll contribute:

Under the direction of the Cancer Committee and the Cancer Registry Coordinator, the Cancer Registrar is responsible for casefinding, collecting cancer data, abstracting and recording cancer data, and collecting and documenting follow-up information. The Cancer Registrar is also responsible for accessioning and reporting cancer data according to the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer (CoC) program standards and as mandated by Georgia State Law.

The value you’ll bring to the team:

    • Abstracting- Demographic data, diagnosis identification, stage at diagnosis, initial course of treatment, as well as follow-up information will be collected on all cases in compliance with the requirements of the ACoS, with 95% accuracy. Gen-Edits will be run on 100% of cases to check accuracy. All cases will be completed within six (6) months of the date of first contact or the date of first diagnosis at the facility.
    • Coding- Uses specific codes assigned in the most current version of manuals: ICD-O, FORDS, AJCC Staging, Collaborative Staging, and Multiple Primary and Histology Staging Manuals, as well as Georgia Cancer Registry Abstracting Data.
    • Follow-Up- Follow-up will be entered per ACoS Follow-up requirements and will maintain at least the minimum of 80% for all analytic patients from the Cancer Registry reference date (1989) and 90% compliance rate for all analytic patients diagnosed within the last five (5) years.
    • ACoS Standards- Understands ACoS Standards for an approved cancer program in order to assist the Cancer Registry Coordinator and facility with the Accreditation process, including attending Cancer Committee meetings, serving on sub-committees and assisting with minutes as required.

Qualifications - External

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must be able to work well with other departments and have a good rapport with the physicians. Must be familiar with medical records and documentation and must demonstrate detail-oriented organizational skills. Must be able to operate: personal computer, tumor registry software, internet, fax machine, copier and telephone.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree.
  • Maintain a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education credits in a 3 year cycle for CTR certification.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

    • Preferred in Cancer Registry Management (CRM) or Cancer Information Management (CIM) from an NCRA-accredited Program with completed clinical practicum
    • Minimum of Two (2) years experience in an American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Cancer Registry is preferred.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • If Associate Degree is not in CRM or CIM, Certificate in CRM or CIM from an NCRA-accredited Program with completed clinical practicum is preferred.
  • If Associate Degree is not in CRM or CIM and no current Certificate in CRM or CIM, must have completed 1,950 hours (equal to one year full time) experience in the cancer registry field.
