We are currently looking for a North America based Principal Geochemist consultant to join our Advisian team. This is a full-time role with opportunity to support projects across the Americas and globally.
What we offer you
As a Principal Geochemist , you will get a chance to work with and help grow our expert team of regulatory, water resources, geosciences, mine water treatment, and desalination consultants, engineers, and scientists. You will help grow our Americas mining business and drive collaboration and integration with our Advisian environmental, services, and technology colleagues to define, plan, permit and address our clients' toughest and most ambitious water-related geochemical and water quality challenges. You will help us bring innovative new technical services, technologies, and commercial strategies to address the next generation needs of our mining clients. By helping us continue to deliver effective, value-creating technical solutions, you will help us forge client relationships to generate follow-on and repeat work. You will help us tell our story to clients, communities, and industry through thought leadership, social media, and business development. We want you to be a key resource for the mining consulting group, supporting our existing and new mining clients.
Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
Geochemical Services Strategic Business Development (20%) and Project Execution (60%): You will serve as a key global resource for mining industry services to win and deliver water and materials management, mine life cycle, sustainability, and mine closure planning-related services to existing mine projects, as well as support the development stages for de-risking and feasibility of new and expanding mining projects. It is our expectation that the majority of the projects that you support will be in the Water for Mining market, however, you will also be a resource for support for critical projects in other market segments when support is needed that fits your expertise. You will direct technical work in areas of geochemistry, hydrogeochemistry, and predictive analytics in support of mining industry projects. You will support the development of staff and deliver work products at the highest technical level with value-oriented and client-focused perspectives.

Your role in winning work will be to guide and support business development (BD), marketing, and project delivery staff to network with mining industry professionals and organizations, recognizing client needs and developing differentiating technological offerings in response, and committing those concepts to written proposals and client presentations. For many of the projects won, you will be a key player in delivery of those projects, typically serving as the senior technical consultant (STC), responsible for maintaining relationships with the client's technical teams, maintaining a common vision with the client's teams for the end deliverables, and helping us position for follow-on and repeat work.

Mining Industry Representation (approximate 20% workload): We will want you to establish yourself as a thought leader in innovative geochemistry and hydrogeochemistry consulting services to the mining industry, particularly focused on helping our mining clients succeed with their mine life cycle and sustainability challenges and goals. We want you to support efforts to advance our understanding and response to mining industry needs and to build Worley's brand position. This time would be spent continuing your active participation in key organizations, participating in targeted meetings and conferences, and meeting directly with other "non-client" network of regulators, policymakers, academics, and other interested parties, including vendors.
Experience and Qualifications
•PhD or Master's degree in Geochemistry, Hydrogeochemistry, Geology, Applied Chemistry or related science discipline.
•Licensed Professional (R.G., C.P.G., P.G., P.Geo., or P.Eng.)
•At least 15 to 25 years of experience in consulting, business development, and project management to the mining industry.
•Strong understanding of the role of water and water quality play in clients' mining operations life cycle, sustainability, and mine closure planning strategies and implementation.
•Strong understanding of the influence of geochemistry on mining projects as accepted by investors and the financial community, as a project moves through the full sequence of development stages from resource assessment to feasibility to closure.
•Hands-on experience with integrated hydrogeological and geochemical conceptual and mathematical modelling applications and solutions.
•Strong team facilitation and client relationship building skills with proven capability to lead teams, mentor staff, and teach developing geoscientists.
•Understanding of business principles for selling and delivering consulting and design projects and related project delivery tools and metrics.
•At least 15 years' experience, including writing and communicating complex technical reports, proposals, and presentations.
•Proven experience working with project managers to deliver successful projects to our clients.
•Ability to travel across North America and worldwide.
Preferred Qualifications
•PhD or Master's in Geochemistry, Hydrogeochemistry or related discipline is desirable, but not required.
•Business development and project delivery of consulting services to the mining industry.
•Strong project experience and relations with Senior mining clients.
•Track record of engagement with recognized industry organizations, including speaking and publication.
•Understanding of the assessment of tailing impoundments, waste rock piles and pit lakes and predictive modeling of water quality from these facilities.
•Location is flexible.
•Other language skills (e.g. Spanish or French) are a plus.
