The General Lab Supervisor - Clinical serves as the CLIA general supervisor for Clinical activities of the Healthcare Laboratory wherein a variety of laboratory tests are performed to aid in the diagnosis of disease and treatment of patients. Duties performed include reviewing and updating Clinical Lab Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), quality assurance activities, and overseeing the collection, analyzing and ultimate use of lab data. They will review and sign off on final clinical laboratory results, update/maintain laboratory records, troubleshoot analyzers, and perform clinical laboratory testing as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serves as the CLIA Clinical General Laboratory Supervisor, ensuring compliance with acceptable testing laboratory performance in accordance with the State of Tennessee, CLIA, and other regulatory organizations:
  • Responsible for clinical laboratory operations as delegated by the medical laboratory director
  • Must be on the laboratory premises at a minimum of thirty (30) hours per week and be readily available for consultations during other hours when tests are performed

• Performs all aspects of employee training and oversight, serves as clinical team subject matter expert, and also assumes a working role in the laboratory, performing clinical testing and review as needed:

• Conduct all training for the Clinical Team
  • Review/Sign off on all training documentation for staff
  • Review competency documentation and build necessary competency items for clinical team
• Review reference ranges for clinical testing and make recommendations as needed
• Review all positive smears via Cellavision or manual slide review under microscope
• Troubleshoot analyzers when needed
• Review patient sample reports as needed

• Partners with Quality Team:
  • Manage clinical accreditation program for the laboratory
  • Monthly Review of QC graphs reporting from systems; prepare and meet with Lab Director to review
  • Responsible for PT testing performance and review of results; provide feedback
  • Work with Quality Team and lab management on CAPA documentation
• Creates and Maintains Clinical Laboratory Documentation records:
  • In collaboration with Cell Lead, Clinical, will write, revise, and update clinical lab Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) 
  • Manage all documentation that requires the signature of the Lab Director; scan all documentation to electronic files, and maintain hard copy files

Successful Candidates Must Possess:

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or equivalent field required; Must also hold Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or equivalent licensure as well as ASCP certification 
• A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Medical Technologist required
• Current State of Tennessee Medical Laboratory Supervisor General License required; prior supervisory experience strongly preferred
• Ability to quickly build productive working relationships and interact with staff at all levels
• Strong computer skills required (Microsoft Office Suite, etc.)
