CREATIVE PROGRAMS MANAGER.Passionate about the arts? Looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to make a difference in your community? We’re looking for creative, motivated people like you! The New Hazlett Theater is seeking an experienced professional to curate and manage its self-produced programming efforts. The Creative Programs Manager is responsible for the design, planning and execution of the New Hazlett’s Community Supported Art (CSA) performance series and other residencies. They partner collaboratively with artists, develop strategic partnerships, and work with the entire NHT team to execute successful productions and meet financial goals.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesProgram Curations and Operations:
  • Design, plan, curate and execute the NHT’s self-produced artistic programming, including the Community Supported Art (CSA) Performance Series and other residencies
  • Serve as primary artist liaison, working directly with artists, contractors and staff to achieve project goals
  • Manage programming operations for self-produced programs, including day-to-day administrative and operational functions. Duties include, but are not limited to artist communications, contract preparation, budget management, production coordination, and public relations for the program and its educational matinee program
  • Host events, participating in top of show welcome and leading post-performance discussions
  • Participate in the strategic development and implementation of new programming initiatives
  • Assist NHT Development staff in fundraising efforts, articulating programmatic elements necessary for successful grant applications and reports
  • Create and manage program schedules and budgets
  • Hire, schedule and manage staff and contractors as needed to support programming
  • Coordinate with Production Manager and Director of Operations to purchase programming and production supplies needed for assigned projects and programs
  • Work with all NHT staff to evaluate current and proposed procedures and work flow, recommending changes when necessary and assisting in implementation of new processes
  • Connect with local and regional arts scenes to build NHT’s artist community
  • Attend artistic, networking, and community events off-site
Other Duties:The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list and additional tasks may be assigned based on emerging priorities and organizational demands. The successful candidate will be prepared to accept new challenges and ad hoc responsibilities to advance the New Hazlett’s mission when needed.
Job RequirementsMinimum Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a performing arts environment
  • Experience working directly with artists
  • Experience with theater practices and procedures
Preferred Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in a supervisory role
  • Experience in project or program management
  • Experience in the Pittsburgh arts and culture environment

  • Excellent project and time management skills with the ability to multitask and reprioritize
  • Strategic thinker with ability to proactively develop new ideas and to manage tactical implementation

Travel Requirements: Access to reliable transportation for local and regional events and meetings. This role is required to be onsite for meetings, rehearsals, and performances that are typically, but not always, accessible via public transportation.

  • An employee in this position will also work in an office environment. Office equipment will be operated as part of this job
  • The position frequently requires the employee to communicate well with others both inside and outside the theater (e.g., in person, via telephone, via email). Effective communication is a crucial aspect of this role, and the ability to interact with others, understand, carry out instructions, and utilize feedback is essential
  • The employee must be able to understand, interpret and analyze data, solve problems, concentrate, research, use available technological resources and systems (e.g. computer programs including but not limited to word processing and spreadsheets), lead meetings, multi-task, prioritize, and meet multiple individuals to complete essential tasks.
Working Hours: This position is primarily an in-person role. Regular attendance is necessary for essential office functions, meetings, rehearsals, and performances. Hours vary depending upon production and performance schedules and require a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends at times. Your schedule can be flexed to accommodate these hours.
Compensation: This is a full-time salaried position with a salary of $58,000/year and includes a comprehensive benefit plan offering health, dental and vision insurance, disability insurance, life insurance, and paid time off.
