About the Role

The Senior Process Engineering Manager provides site leadership to the Process Engineering team. Contributes to multiple cross functional teams providing valuable insight and leadership throughout the facilities. Key contributor to building brand value and achieving enduring profitable growth. Responsible for leading activities of the Process Engineering department, including new model and minor model program management, daily production engineering support for plant operations, efficiency improvement, scrap reduction, and equipment acquisition. Foster continuous improvement to develop, align, and exceed key performance indicators.

What You Will Do

  • Ensures safety is always the number one priority; promotes a safe work environment and safety-oriented culture by following all safety programs and guidelines.
  • Manages major and minor model manufacturing plan development and execution, including trials and launch of new equipment and tooling; confirms new and minor model program requirements; ensures requirements for quality, delivery, cost, and safety are met; addresses production to ensure countermeasures are made in a timely manner; ensures program targets are met at each trial or development stage.
  • Manages and leads the development of budgets for new model programs and ensures adherence to the approved budgets once programs are contracted.
  • Is responsible for development and achievement of plant goals and objectives as they pertain to quality, cost, delivery, and safety.
  • Establishes and monitors quality performance to cost budgets, including scrap, labor, and expense within Engineering team. Implements proper measures to continually reduce costs.
  • Ensures continuous cooperation with operations departments regarding investigations and resolutions of chronic or severe in-plant quality problems.
  • Leads a group of engineering managers responsible for process engineering teams.
  • Establishes and monitors quality performance within the department. Uses good problem-solving techniques to identify root cause. Implements actions to eliminate further occurrences.
  • Identifies potential improvements and implements new department processes, systems, and tracking processes to achieve departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Coordinates with AESC engineering and design groups to implement changes in battery or parts design; develops processes and plans to improve efficiency.
  • Supports manufacturing as required to meet aforementioned goals with continuous process improvements; provides direction to manufacturing regarding manpower utilization and efficiency, and ergonomics. Provides direction and responsibilities for employees centered on training, objectives, development of standards within the job function, and New Model plant preparation.
  • Oversee the greenfield project for plant setup, equipment installation, trials, and launch of production.
  • Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards.
  • Understands and follows all standards of ISO14001 environmental standards.

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering) from an accredited institution is required.
  • At least 5 years of previous manager level experience, providing leadership, coaching, guidance, and training and contributing to staff development is required. Supervised subordinates or contractors with differentiated roles. Subordinate positions carried several different titles. Functions, though similar in objective, were distinct.
  • At least ten or more years of comprehensive professional experience in an engineering role.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering blueprints, engineering change notices, work instructions, procedures and routers, as well as GD&T is required.
  • Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFEMA) proficiency is required.
  • Manufacturing knowledge and expertise. Background in supporting a highly technical automotive-related manufacturing environment is required.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Advanced computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint); Expertise and proficiency with basic office computer software, and the ability to learn how to effectively use maintenance software to input data and research parts
  • Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards. (Training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
  • Understands and follows all standards of ISO14001 environmental standards. (Training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)

What is “Nice to Have”?

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or MBA is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Lean principles and Six Sigma methodologies to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • Skills in managing organizational change, especially when introducing new technologies or processes.
  • Proficiency in additional languages beyond English is advantageous, as it aligns with our global operations and enhances communication with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience or familiarity with the dynamics of start-up environments, showcasing an ability to thrive in agile and fast-paced settings.

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily an automated manufacturing plant with a concrete floor and is characterized by some temperature extremes, moderate noise, and forklift traffic. The individual must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings, and with employees, management, customers and suppliers.
