Key Responsbilities
  • Report to a designated Clinic Medical Director and may be assigned to, based on medical specialty such as: (outpatient forensics, addiction medicine, correctional mental health services, clozapine, diversion, and informatics programs. Incumbents may also be assigned to other areas, such as quality management and medical education,) OR ( supervise/teach residents and medical students and provide consultation to nursing and medical assistant students)
Duties
  • Assumes medical responsibility for patients under their direct care and supervision in outpatient clinics.
  • Perform intakes and assessments of new patients using evidence-based practices for their field of medicine. Conducts comprehensive evaluations, treatment plans and/or examinations of patients. Request necessary history and treatment plans from outside providers, when necessary. Direct patient care, including follow-ups.
  • Identify patient needs requiring medical management, obtain and review data, including laboratory and other diagnostic procedures or consultations pertinent to the evaluation and treatment of patients.
  • Manage an appropriate caseload. Provide detailed written reports of assessments/evaluations, diagnosis and summaries of treatment provided, and ensure medical care and documentation are in compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, regulation, and accreditation standards.
  • Lead treatment team discussions. Provides advice and counseling for families and others involved in patient care, including consultation to care providers for routine care and emergency medical problems.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, providing relevant consultation services. Perform or assist in drafting, reviewing, revising, and implementing treatment standardized protocols and guidelines for evidence-based care.
  • Stay abreast of developments in the specialized medical field of focus and regularly communicate relevant information to DBH and its providers.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of legal and other court- related documents, written reports and provides court testimony as necessary.
  • Comply with licensing and accreditation standards and other regulatory requirements. Interpret and support standards and requirements to others, and complete other assignments, as assigned.
Minimum RequirementsCandidates must meet all the requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited school of medicine is required. Certification
  • Possession of a valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate is required. A copy of the DEA certificate must be submitted with the application.
  • Six (6) months of full-time experience teaching residents and/or medical students. (Teaching experience gained while completing residency hours is qualifying.)
  • OR- Six (6) months of full-time experience working in a behavioral health specialty clinic/area (e.g., outpatient forensics, correctional mental health services, Clozaril, Diversion, Quality Management, or Informatics). Experience must be gained within a public or private behavioral health or healthcare organization to be considered qualifying.
  • Possession of a valid Physician's and Surgeon's certificate issued by the Medical Board of California, or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California is required. Applicants MUST indicate the number and expiration date on the Supplemental Questionnaire to be considered.
  • Medical Specialty Requirements: Psychiatry Field of Medicine
    • Residency: Completion of a residency in psychiatry approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education is required. A copy of the certificate of completion of residency MUST be submitted with the application.
      • Note: Applications will be accepted from candidates within nine (9) months of completion of residency.
      • Applicants must provide a letter of verification from their residency program which verifies the anticipated date of completion. Addiction Medicine Field of Medicine 1.
    • Residency: Completion of a residency approved by an American Specialty Board/Board certified or eligible in Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry. 2. Active DEA-X waiver
