Job Title

Position Title: Farm to School Student Assistant (Seasonal) - ***Current DPSCD Students Only***
Contract Hours: 5 weeks/ 20 hours per week. 8AM-12PM work schedule Monday - Friday.
Location: Drew Transition Center
Salary: $15.00/Hr ($1,500 paid as a stipend upon completion of the contract)
Reports to: Farm to School Supervisor or designee
Bargaining Unit: N/A

End Date: August 9, 2024
Position Summary:
The Office of School Nutrition's Farm to School Program is committed to providing professional, work-based training opportunities for DPSCD high school students that builds skills in nutrition, gardening/ agriculture, and entrepreneurship that connects to higher education opportunities and career pathways.
Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum education: Current DPSCD Student
• 14 - 17 years of age at time of hire
• Clean criminal history
• Ability to work well individually and as part of a team.
• Ability to work with a range of age groups.
• Must secure a valid work permit from school counselor

Essential Functions:

Provide on-site planting, harvesting, processing, and packaging assistance to Drew Farm staff.

Maintain other larger DPSCD farm sites.

Learn about foodservice operations/safe food handling.

Keep records and data on harvested goods and processing.

Must be able to physically perform the duties outlined with or without accommodations.

Perform other duties as assigned by Farm to School Supervisor or designee.

Security Clearance:
Internal Applicants
If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
External Applicants
In alignment with Michigan law, if you are hired to fill a position, you will be required to submit to a Detroit Public Schools Community District criminal background check. Information regarding required background checks will be shared at point of hire.
