This position is for our program that specializes in teaching traditional in-soil and hydroponic growing techniques to students, helping them build interest in the field of agriculture and expose them to new potential careers. This program impacts students of all ages, from pre-k through high school, but emphasizes grades 7-12. We help students gain skills in agricultural entrepreneurship, supply chain management, accounting, and more! We do everything from developing community gardens on vacant lots to building a business that provides produce to corner markets in the community. YOUR DAY
As the Youth Agricultural Program - WestRoots Program Director, you'll inspire students with captivating stories of traditional and hydroponic growing methods, and together, you'll explore the world of agricultural entrepreneurship.
Throughout the day, you'll collaborate with staff, engage community partners, and ignite students' curiosity about supply chain management and accounting. You'll witness their enthusiasm blossom as they develop community gardens, engage the neighborhood in exciting growing projects, and contribute to building a business that provides fresh produce to local corner markets. Every day will be an adventure, filled with mentorship, growth, and the satisfaction of knowing you're equipping students with valuable skills for a brighter future.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to act in accordance with both the Agency's and the program's mission statements
  • 21 years of age
  • Associates/Bachelor's Degree, preferably in agricultural sciences
  • Experience with both traditional and hydroponic growing techniques
  • Supervisory experience and strong decision-making abilities
  • Ability to lift up to 55 lbs
  • Excellent communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults
WORK SCHEDULE
This is a full-time position with a flexible schedule that changes based on the needs of the program.
