AGSC is Hiring an Environmental Scientist I - Ahtna Government Services Near West Sacramento, CA

Summary:

NOTE: This position will be classified as a telecommute position, with 30% travel, primarily working from home with requirements to visit the West Sacramento office as needed.

The environmental scientist position requires a dynamic individual with an environmental science, geology, biology, chemistry, or civil engineering background, storm water or erosion control experience, possess knowledge of storm water quality management practices related to environmental regulatory standards, soil, surface water and possess knowledge of installation techniques of Best Management Practices (BMPs) for active construction sites, the ability to work flexible hours and a willingness to travel periodically. The position will be extremely active and will include a variety of field assignments and office work. Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations is a plus. The position requires an individual who is looking to advance their career opportunities and would like to be involved with a diversity of assignments including, but not limited to, environmental investigation and remediation, regulatory research, environmental data review, and hazardous materials abatement and demolition projects. Areas of specialty should include storm water, erosion control best management practices, site construction means and methods.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities – All Levels: (including but not limited to)

  • Conducting field assessments and sampling investigations and prepare technical evaluations of environmental data
  • Assisting in the preparation of technical plans and reports
  • Conducting regulatory compliance reviews and interpreting environmental codes and regulations
  • Collaborating with client, regulatory agencies, contractors and other specialty project parties to develop plans and recommendations best suited for each individual site and project
  • Collecting and interpreting environmental sampling data, and providing field consultations as required
  • Reading specifications such as GIS and CAD figures to determine construction requirements and to help in planning procedures
  • Adhering to schedule and financial objectives as specified by project management
  • Enhancing company reputation by accepting ownership for the team performance and adding value to assigned task
  • Assisting with the Proposal and Contract preparation process
  • Examining and inspecting work progress, equipment, and construction sites to verify safety and to ensure that specifications are met
  • Conferring with managerial and technical personnel, other departments, and contractors in order to resolve problems and to coordinate activities
  • Recording information such as personnel, production, and operational data on specified forms and reports; communicate with Project Manager
  • Analyzing worker and production problems and recommend solutions, such as improving production methods or implementing motivational
  • Schedule and coordinate BMP work installation activities with subcontractor/vendors.
  • Assist with the BMP installation process and verify proper conformance with SWPPP and/or Erosion Sediment Control Plans.
  • Order or requisition materials and supplies as needed or as directed.
  • Locate, measure, and mark site locations and placement of erosion control features and best management practices.
  • Operate as Qualified Pipeline Safety personnel, overseeing excavation activities near critical and high priority gas lines
  • Provide assistance to the Project Manager with the proposal and contract process
  • Provide assistance to the Project Manager with the estimating and invoicing process
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by management

Level Specific Responsibilities: (may include but not limited to)

Level - I
  • Project assistance to program and project managers; scope, schedule, and budget on assigned tasks
  • Execute assigned tasks in accordance work plans and direction from higher-level staff Acquire and/or develop an area of technical expertise
  • Engage program and project managers for task assignments
Minimum Qualifications:
All levels:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physical/Environmental Sciences or similarly related field Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record, able to drive company vehicle
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and databases such as Access and PowerPoint
  • Adept at explaining technical aspects of field work to internal and external clients verbally and in writing
Level - I
  • Zero (0) to Three (3) years of relevant working experience, specialized training and/or advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • California Qualified Stormwater Practitioner (QSP) or Qualified Stormwater Plan Developer (QSD) Certification. Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) or Certified Professional in Storm Water Quality (CPSWQ) or Certified Erosion, Sediment and Storm Water Inspector (CESSWI)
  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER 8 Hour HAZWOPER Refresher CPR/1st Aid Certified
  • Experience working on projects with Federal clients

Working Environment:

Physical Demands (including but not limited to):
  • Frequent lifting, sitting, standing, stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity, should have good hand-eye coordination and motion control in coordination with handling tools, equipment and other related components
  • Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 12 hours.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds such as small electrical components, equipment and other materials
