Summary
Under general supervision is responsible for performing accounting functions and assisting in the administration of internal audit functions of County departments. Proficient in utilizing EXCEL to prepare and maintain reports of a financial or statistical nature.
Essential Duties

  • Collects and compiles data from a variety of sources in the preparation of reports of a financial or statistical nature as directed, maintaining EXCEL spreadsheets as required.
  • Monitors agency bank account balances in the general ledger for completeness and to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.
  • Maintains and prepares timely and accurate financial reports.
  • Prepares reconciliations of journal and/or ledgers, and reports.
  • Analyzes financial data from departments to identify potential problems.
  • Review and/or inspect receipts, docket books, journals, and other related documents associated with selected transactions to evaluate adequacy and effectiveness of accounting management, and custodial control activities and adherence with laws, regulations and established policies.
  • Prepares reports, schedules, and working papers as required, including preparing projections and supporting documentation for budget and annual financial report.
  • Monitors information from departments for accuracy and completion in the financial records.
  • Develops audit programs and schedules in consultation with the County Auditor. Prepares audit reports documenting findings.
  • Reviews all asset and liability accounts for proper classifications and accuracy.
  • Assists County officials with proper accounting procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with laws governing County finances.
  • Performs other accounting and auditing duties as assigned.
  • Must exercise initiative and independent judgment in applying standards to a variety of work situations.
  • May assist in developing training manuals and processes for county employees to utilize in the ERP Enterprise system.
  • May create training classes and instruct those classes for County employees.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes and work cooperatively with co-workers and County department directors.
  • May perform other duties as assigned to maintain operations.
  • Reports directly to the Internal Audit Manager.
Position Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting or a related field with 2 year of related experience, preferably in governmental fund accounting and/or auditing.
Supplemental Information
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent knowledge of government accounting and other finance related areas including accounting and knowledge of auditing techniques; detail oriented; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely orally and in writing; perform basic mathematical calculations; analyze and interpret data; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, officials and the general public; ability to prepare reports and maintain records. Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing MS EXCEL and WORD software.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Maintain the ability to occasionally stand, walk, kneel, and bend during the shift; Reach, grip and use fine dexterity; Push and pull objects; Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees; Occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds; Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing; place arms above, at or below shoulder height; Use of vision and depth perception; ability to communicate clearly.
