AHIP is Hiring a Creative Director, Advocacy Near Washington, DC

AHIP is looking for an experienced Creative Director, Advocacy, to join their team! Position Summary: The Director, Creative Advocacy, oversees and contributes to creating visually compelling graphic design to promote and establish AHIP as a leader in health care issues. The content produced by the advocacy graphics team is determined by the association's continuously evolving needs and often requires a rapid response, tight turnarounds, and creative problem-solving. This position also ensures consistent brand identity across all products and platforms, including the oversight and collaboration of freelance writers and agency partners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Develops and extends America's Health Insurance Plans' visual brand onstrategic and tactical levels.

2. Leads the association's advocacy for print and digital creative development and works collaboratively with AHIP's marketing graphic design team to ensure cohesive communication of AHIP's visual brand.

3. Manages project workflow and design requests using practical project management applications (including Freedcamp, Formstack, or other projectcollaboration and tracking tools).

4. Has oversight of projects such as producing HTML/CSS templates and graphics for websites, social media, email campaigns, infographics, videos, issue briefs, annual reports, slide decks, and special projects.

5. Implements and maintains a digital media library

6. Establishes the conceptual and stylistic vision for projects and campaigns on all design solutions, branding & identity, responsive/adaptive web design, infographics and data visualization, and print collateral.

7. Collaborates with colleagues across the association to brainstorm projects and interpret complex data and policy ideas to suit a variety of digital and print media needs—from research reports to infographics.

8. Assists the digital and grassroots teams, partners, and outside designers and developers on all projects, including creating graphics, videos, and other digital content assets for the organization, its coalition websites, and social media.

9. Oversees advocacy design team and external consultants and freelancers.

10. Leads and trains team members on new processes and procedures to keep current with technologies in digital and print mediums.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervision of Graphic Design Coordinator.

Minimum Education and Experience Required:

1. Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience.

2. Minimum of 7-10 years of experience working in graphic design.

3. Compelling portfolio of work with a wide range of creative projects.

Other Qualifications

• Excellent visual communicator; provides creative concepts for depicting essential data points on key issues on various topics.

• Knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, Sketch, InDesign, and other graphic design software; familiarity with HTML CSS preferred

• Proven understanding of color theory, typography, page composition, grid structures, photography, and industry trends

• Ability to learn and understand pertinent health care issues

• Knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography, print, and the web

• Communicates deadlines effectively and works constructively with team members to ensure timely project completion.

• Ability to work independently and manage projects from start to finish

• Ability to work favorably as part of a team, understand and follow directions.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Ability to build collaborative relationships

• Ability to influence others

• Ability to identify and seek information

• Analytical and conceptual thinking skills

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
