Position Description:

This position is responsible for greeting, collecting and processing all non-scheduled patients to gather the necessary demographic information required in accordance with all regulations and hospital policies to provide care for the patients, procure reimbursement verification from third parties and maintain records appropriately.

Job Duties:
  • Thoroughly reads and interprets documentation in the medical record to identify all diagnoses and procedures.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with overall utilization of hospital encoder/grouper and its functions.
  • Effectively utilizes AHA Coding Guidelines and other reference sources available within the department.
  • Serves as coding resource for other departments/providers.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Graduate of accredited coding program, 4 year or 2 year required.
  • One year of inpatient/outpatient coding experience in an acute care facility required.
  • CPC, COC, CIC, CCA, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA credential required.
  • Knowledge of PC applications including Windows and 3M Encoder. Must demonstrate coding proficiency by earning an acceptable score on a coding test.
