Lab Quality and Educator Coordinator

Responsible for researching, developing, and oversight of a structured Medical Laboratory Science Program within the hospital setting. Collaborates with the laboratory management team and other appropriate associates as well as outside agencies to provide an NAACLS accredited educational program that is committed to providing the students with the skills, knowledge, experiences and technology required to become successful in achieving national certification, professional roles and leadership positions. Responsible for maintaining clinical competency in all areas of the laboratory department to ensure clinical knowledge is current and accurate to provide instruction to students. Responsible for assisting department leads and laboratory management with preparation for accreditation inspections and ensuring continuous compliance with regulatory accreditation requirements.


Duties:

  • Maintains current knowledge of NAACLS, CAP (College of American Pathologists) and Joint Commission Standards (TJC), definitions and intents.
  • Assists with departmental education regarding compliance of regulatory requirements and maintains compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Oversees the process for achieving NAACLS accreditation of the Medical Lab Science education program. Assists with preparation for CAP and TJC survey processes; and facilitates in the absence of director.
  • Provides timely reports regarding PI activities, TJC and other regulatory standards, and other information as requested or appropriate, to hospital leaders.
  • Incorporates adult learning principles into education methods selected. Provides leadership in assessing, providing, and evaluating education needs. Utilizes internal and external resources to provide education specific to specialty areas. Leads development of MT education program.
  • Maintain current competency and responding to new clinical demands. Serve as a role model, clinical expert and mentor to all hospital personnel and clinical students.
  • Maintain clinical competency by performing patient testing in core lab departments a minimum of one (1) day a month, rotating to each core lab departments.
  • Provide a minimum of one (1) laboratory CEU program a year. Develops and coordinates competency-based orientation programs.
  • Participates in various hospital, community, Corporate, or other committees and organizations as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

Education requirements: "Training in a qualified Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technology program or equivalent is required.

Work experience requirements: A minimum of 1 year supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory department preferred. 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory as a generalist. Must be able to demonstrate competency in all required clinical areas. Teaching experience is preferred.

Required licenses/ certifications/courses Registration required by ASCP or equivalent Board of Registry as a Medical Technologist is required.

Required skills, knowledge and abilities: Excellent communication skills and ability to initiate and maintain collaborative relationships with all members of the healthcare team, to include medical staff leadership, hospital leadership, and front line staff. Detail-oriented; must maintain a confidential, secure, and accurate data environment.
