Job Description: Sewage Truck Operator

Location: Tinian Island, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, United States

Citizenship: US Citizen with a valid passport

Responsibilities

• Operate sewage truck to collect and transport wastewater to treatment facilities

• Locate and maneuver truck for efficient waste collection

• Operate vacuum equipment and hoses to remove wastewater from septic tanks or holding units

• Ensure proper disposal of wastewater at designated treatment plants or facilities

• Maintain accurate records of waste collection volumes and locations

• Perform basic maintenance tasks on the sewage truck, including cleaning and checking fluid levels

• Report any malfunctions of the sewage truck

• Assist with cleaning and deodorizing septic tanks or portable toilets, as required

• Communicate with dispatchers and supervisors to coordinate collection schedules

• Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations regarding wastewater handling

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED (preferred)

• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience operating a sewage truck in waste management or similar environment

• Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with minimum Class B classification (endorsements may be required depending on specific vehicle weight and waste capacity). National equivalents are acceptable

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A CDL may be preferable for some employers

• Strong understanding of safe operation practices for sewage trucks and wastewater handling

• Excellent problem-solving skills to address unexpected situations during waste collection

• Physically capable of tasks requiring bending, lifting, climbing, working outdoors in unpleasant conditions, and maneuvering hoses and valves

• Ability to tolerate strong odors associated with sewage

Work Environment

• Work outdoors in all weather conditions

• Physically demanding job with exposure to unpleasant odors and biohazards

• Frequent travel between collection sites

• Strict adherence to safety protocols to prevent accidents and exposure to harmful materials

Additional Considerations

• Some employers may require additional certifications specific to wastewater handling or septic system maintenance

• Ability to operate CCTV camera equipment for inspecting sewer lines may be beneficial for some positions
