Job Title: Civil Rights Investigator

Location: 100 N. Senate Ave. Rm N 300, Indianapolis, IN 46204

Duration: 6-Month Contract

Purpose of Position/Summary:

Civil Rights Investigator, where you will play a crucial role in investigating allegations of discriminatory practices under the Civil Rights Act. Your responsibilities will include gathering and analyzing relevant documents through interviews and onsite investigations, preparing detailed written summaries, and making recommendations on whether there is probable cause to believe a discriminatory act occurred.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct interviews with complainants, respondents, and witnesses via phone, in the office, or onsite, using accepted investigative principles.
  • Analyze information from interviews, comparative data, and statistics.
  • Prepare concise written case analyses, including relevant facts, interviews, observations, and conclusions.
  • Manage a caseload, ensuring no more than 9% of cases are "aged" (180 days) and submit a minimum of eight (8) cases per month.
  • Maintain up-to-date case file records, including both paper and online case management systems.
  • Develop effective working relationships with coworkers, clients, and the public, and provide education and training on Civil Rights Laws and ICRC operations.
  • Perform legal administrative support duties and related tasks as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply Indiana Civil Rights Law, Commission rules and regulations, and relevant court decisions.
  • Specialized understanding of Civil Rights principles, practices, and trends at both state and national levels.
  • Ability to secure and analyze data and testimony related to Indiana Civil Rights Law, especially in employment cases.
  • Proficient in conducting complex investigations and making recommendations to the director.
  • Strong understanding of legal concepts and their application to specific cases.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office 365.
