Leading the regional accounting team, this role will be responsible for ensuring timely and relevant monitoring of processes and controls for Ainsworth. By execution of his or her responsibilities, this role ensures compliance with established and acceptable accounting practices and legal requirements, which in turn results in the timely and accurate delivery of financial reporting for the business.
The Regional Controller will act as a collaborative partner in cross-functional efforts within the Corporate Accounting team, as well as between divisions and departments. The Regional Controller will also be responsible for coaching and mentoring more junior resources within the Accounting department.
Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with regional business leaders to support financial analysis for business decisions.
  • Oversee the execution and delivery of all financial reporting.
  • Monitor and analyze monthly operational results against forecast/budget for all divisions.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls related to all financial operations and reporting.
  • Review and assist in the preparation of month and year-end financial statements for both external and internal processes. Lead the audit process for Ainsworth USA.
  • Prepare and maintain financial metrics for reporting and lead regular financial reviews with regional business leaders.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely completion of all month end processes.
  • Oversee project accounting activities, including cost tracking, revenue recognition, and job costing analysis
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, variance reports, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor project profitability and financial health
  • Coordinate with project managers and executives to review project budgets, assess financial risks, and develop mitigation strategies
  • Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and financing activities to optimize liquidity and minimize borrowing cost.
  • Prepare and co-ordinate the preparation of financial statements, summaries, and other cost-benefit analyses and financial management reports as required.
  • Participate in the functions of budgeting, procurement, investment activities and financial planning.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS standards.
  • Responsible for the compliance and execution of all financial controls and procedures within the business, including ensuring acceptable procedures and policies for accounting, financial and taxes are in place within the business.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance to senior management, identifying opportunities for cost savings, revenue growth, and operational efficiency improvements
  • Mentor and develop finance and accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning
  • Perform all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abiding by and in accordance with all applicable Health, Safety and Environmental company policies and government legislation/regulations.
  • Adhere to the Company’s Quality System operating procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
Education And Experience
  • CPA designation with a minimum 5 years’ experience in a financial leadership role.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including GAAP.
  • The successful candidate must be an accomplished operationally oriented financial executive with a minimum of 10 years experience.
  • Thorough understanding of construction accounting principles, including revenue recognition methods, work-in-progress (WIP) accounting, and percentage of completion (POC) accounting
  • Knowledge of various ERP programs, automated financial and accounting reporting systems an asset.
  • ERP project implementation as well as business combination/integration would be an asset.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft products, specifically Excel
  • Proven ability to develop strong relationships based on trust, integrity and mutual respect.
  • Previous experience in service delivery or technical services and construction considered a strong asset.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading process improvement initiatives leading to efficiencies in financial reporting processes.
  • A CPA designation in good standing is essential.
