Air Force Research Laboratory is Hiring a Computer Engineer/Scientist DR-0854/1550-02, AFRL/IZHI Near Dayton, OH

Job OverviewThis job announcement will be accepting candidate submissions through 24 April 2024The NEW Digital Capabilities Directorate with AFRL seeks to fill a mid-level, DR-02 Computer Engineer or Computer Scientist within the Infrastructure & Customer Management Branch (IZHI) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Researches, designs, develops, tests and evaluates hardware and software requirements for complex, high-performance computing (HPC) systems in support of the DoD Supercomputing Resource Center (DSRC).
  • Serves as system administrator on Unix platforms and Risk Management Framework (RMF) tools. Screens, analyzes and defines requirements for high-performance computer-based systems, as well as infrastructure and facilities which provide world class HPC resources to a DoD-wide community of scientists and engineers engaged in specialized Research & Development technology research.
  • Provides advice and guidance on a wide range of HPC topics. Develops proposals to enhance the operational use of system hardware and software and keeps abreast of technological advances to ensure continued optimum service. Advises management in identifying areas where systems can reduce or eliminate labor and time intensive manual processes.
  • Evaluates evolving hardware and software technology, scientific visualization, high-performance storage and high-speed local/wide area networking. Prepares, coordinates and implements policy and procedures for hardware and software applications. Develops comprehensive instruction for operation of system components.
  • Tests and evaluates current and proposed equipment upgrades and advises management regarding acquisition proposals designed to enhance mission accomplishment through automation.

Required Qualifications
  • Computer Engineer (0854): To meet eligibility of a Computer Engineer, applicants must meet the following basic requirements. Degree in Engineering. The program must have been ABET accredited.   • Computer Scientist (1550): To meet eligibility of a Computer Scientist, applicants must meet the following basic requirements. Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.   • Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the DR/DO-01/GS-11 or equivalent grade level of the position being advertised.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
  • This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring a Level 2 Practitioner Non-Critical certification in Engineering & Technical Management (N). Applicants for this position are encouraged to list any acquisition certifications in their resume.
