Airbotics Talent is Hiring a Senior Robotics Controls Engineer Near Rochester, NY

Role: Senior Robotics Controls Engineer

Business: Mobile Robotics

Location: Rochester (NY) - will support relocation

Airbotics Talent have partnered with an advanced Robotics startup who design and manufacture complex mobile robotics. They are now seeking a Senior Robotics Controls Engineer to design and develop full robot architecture. Candidates should be currently based in the US and either local to the Rochester (NY) office or willing to relocate - a process our client are happy to support.

The Role

As Senior Robotics Controls Engineer, this role is the most senior of its kind in the business and reports directly to the CTO. Initially as a high impact standalone role, there is potential for the incumbent to develop a team in the future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research to understand user needs and develop new product concepts and sketches.
  • Design, test, and validate electronic and electrical systems to ensure they meet operational standards.
  • Balance design tradeoffs, lead technical reviews, and manage prototype testing.
  • Create and implement safety processes for autonomous operations, including generating safety documentation.
  • Research and develop new capabilities for industrial robotics, including debugging ROS packages and developing mission plans.
  • Stay updated on technologies and trends to drive product improvements and meet future goals.

The Person

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in product and machine development from concept to production with high level proficiency in I&C system integration, instrumentation selection, I/O list development, control panel layout and wiring and detailed loop wiring diagram and EPLAN softwares.
  • A Degree in an Engineering, Robotics Engineering or similar discipline.
  • A strong grounding in programming such as PLC/HMI, Robot (preferred KUKA) and ROS
  • Worked with ROS, ROS 2, Python/C , EPLAN P8 and have familiarity with regulatory compliance such as CE, FCC or UL.
  • Technical understanding of automation, robotics, computer vision, machine learning or AI would be beneficial but not essential
  • An ability to work with autonomy.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, able to operate with agility and willing to support other areas and departments of the business and stakeholders when required.
  • Experience traveling with work and comfortable with up to 50% travel.
  • Based local to Rochester (NY) or able to relocate to the area.
