ABOUT YOU

As the SLPI Coordinator, you will coordinate all SLPI assessments for all AIDB staff employees that have SLPI requirements. You will collaborate and coordinate with all AIDB SLPI Raters to ensure all SLPI assessments are scheduled and completed with scores to provide to the HR and other applicable units. You will coordinate the development and implementation of a sequential sign language training program and curriculum that provides the documentation of achievement of various of proficiency levels.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Deaf Education, American Sign Language, or any related fields.
  • Must possess a SLPI level of ADVANCED PLUS upon hire.
  • Must possess a SLPI Rater Certificate.
  • Must have a minimum of three years experiences working with the deaf in areas of education, interpreting services, American Sign Language instruction or any other direct work experience requiring intense communications with the deaf.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree.
  • Possess American Sign Language Teachers Association Certification (ASLTA).

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Obtain SLPI Level Score of SUPERIOR within 12 months of hire date.
  • Work and collaborate with the SLPI ASL Instructor to ensure employees with SLPI requirements receive appropriate courses and training to meet their level goals.
  • Schedule SLPI assessments and complete assessments including written reports in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate ratings with all AIDB SLPI Raters.
  • Collaborate with HR and other AIDB units on providing assessments and SLPI results.
  • May assist with some ASL instruction for employees as needed.
  • Must be willing to travel to any AIDB regional centers and AIDB North campus to do SLPI assessments as needed and applicable.
  • Must have clear communication and English skills for writing reports, memoriam, etc.
  • Maintain all SLPI results of all AIDB employees in an organized system and be able to provide SLPI result upon request.
  • Check and respond to emails and requests in a timely manner.
  • Report to Director of Deaf Services, E.H. Gentry.
  • Must participate in professional development opportunities related to an understanding of vision, hearing, and dual sensory loss along with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Must be willing to attend ongoing professional development, attend workshops, conferences and other staff development activities.
  • Complete AIDB online training on Deafness, Low Vision, DeafBlindness, and Multiple Disabilities within 12 months of hire.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."
