Alabama Public Television is Hiring a Documentary Production Specialist-Producer Near Birmingham, AL

Alabama Public Television (APT) is seeking a full-time Documentary Production Specialist-Producer to work in APT’s Production Department. This position’s primary responsibility will be producing programs, documentaries, promos, and digital media materials. This position will play a pivotal role in creating engaging and impactful content for our community.

Responsibilities

  • Research, write, and produce assigned promos, programs, and special projects in compliance with good journalistic and legal standards.
  • Establish, maintain, and adhere to project budgets and work closely with APT fundraising personnel on grant applications for said projects.
  • Collaborate within the Production Team as well as other departments.
  • Operate and maintain computers and media focused software and data/media management products.
  • Maintain an organized digital workflow that includes regular backup, archiving, and cataloging of digital files.

Qualifications

  • College degree in Broadcast Journalism/Documentary Production, or equivalent work experience.
  • High level proficiency in the use of industry standard non-linear editing applications and techniques
  • Accurate and comprehensive writing skills.
  • Ability to lift and transport standard production equipment if needed.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Availability and flexibility to travel overnight to off-site locations, including foreign destinations, for extended periods of time, if needed.
