Physical Education Aide
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Associate Degree (OR) have completed a minimum of 48 semester hours at a regionally accredited institution of higher education (OR) have successfully completed the Alabama State Board of Education approved WorkKeys Test
Knowledge of effective physical education teaching techniques desired
Experience working with children is preferred
Physical health to support significant standing, walking, moving, bending, kneeling, etc.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Good attendance and work record
Valid Alabama Driver’s License
Demonstration and record of sound moral character
Meet background clearance requirements
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calhoun County Board of Education deems appropriate
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the physical education teacher in preparing material for instruction.
Assist in preparation of gym and/or outside areas for daily activities.
Handle equipment and materials responsibly.
Assist in the maintenance and storage of equipment.
Provide proper supervision of all students.
Assist the teacher in providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Lead various size groups through exercises and games.
Demonstrate and reinforce proper techniques.
Manage and teach students how to handle and resolve conflict.
Follow procedures for administering first aid.
Enforce safety rules.
Follow disciplinary procedures.
Promote good sportsmanship.
Maintain confidentiality.
Keep records as required.
Perform duties in a manner that promotes good public relations.
Attend meetings and in-service presentations as required.
Maintain proper and professional relationships with students and other employees.
Coach or sponsor athletics/extra-curricular activities.
Be familiar with and follow Calhoun County Board of Education policies.

This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Calhoun County Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by the Calhoun County School System.
Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.
