Alabama State Department of Education is Hiring a Speech Language Pathologiyst- Systemwide- Liberty Middle Near Madison, WI

Job Goals: To enable students to develop communication skills needed to achieve their maximum academic and social potential.

Qualifications: As set by the state certification authorities and the American Speech and Hearing Association

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Director of Special Education and Principal(s)

Background Check Required: (Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of student behavior in his/her area of exceptionality as well as policies and procedures relevant to program implementation and participation.
  • Knowledge to interpret assessment data, group students and develop methodologies and strategies conducive to individualized instructional needs.
  • Effective skills in oral and written communication to fulfill IEP requirements and communicate to students, parents, support agencies and other faculty and staff.
  • Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts screening to identify students with communicative disorders.
  • Evaluates and diagnoses speech and language disorders.
  • Develops and implements individualized education plans to meet the unique needs of each student receiving therapy service.
  • Develops appropriate service delivery models to meet the needs of students.
  • Refers students to other professional and community agencies.
  • Consults with classroom teachers and other school personnel to facilitate carry-over of therapy gains into classroom activities.
  • Provides information, support, and guidance to parents/guardians and families.
  • Assists teachers in the identification of children with communicative disorders.
  • Maintains records for students evaluated and receiving services.
  • Informs administrators and other members of the educational team of program developments and student progress.
  • Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
  • Coordinates services with other school programs.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
  • Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.

Expected Employment: 187 days (full year)

Evaluation: According to established Board policies and administrative procedures and guidelines.

Salary: According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year)
