Job Description

Alabama State University, College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, Department of Engineering invites applications for the position Lab Manager. The Lab Manager will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratories within the engineering department. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, organizational skills, and a strong commitment to safety and compliance. The Lab Manager will oversee all aspects of the labs, including maintenance, safety protocols, and procurement of materials and supplies.
Duties and Responsibilities:

• Safety Management

Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirement
Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions
Provide training and guidance to lab users on proper safety practices nd emergency procures

• Lab Maintenance

Ensure all lab equipment is properly maintained, and calibrated for safe and efficient operation
Coordinate repairs and maintenance with external vendors or internal resources as needed
Maintain cleanliness and organization within the labs to ensure a conducive working environment

• Inventory and Procurement

Manage inventory levels of materials, chemicals, and equipment necessary for lab activities
Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and supplies
Evaluate new products and technologies to improve lab efficiency and functionality

• Budget Management

Assist in the development of annual budgets for lab operations and capital expenditures
Monitor expenditures and seek const-effective solutions to meet operational needs within budgetary constraints

• Collaboration and Support

Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and students to support their research and educational activities
Provide technical assistance and guidance to lab users as needed including troubleshooting equipment issuers and experimental setups

• Documentation and Compliance

Maintain accurate records of equipment, inventory, and safety inspections
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines governing lab operations, including environmental regulations and ethical standards
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or a related field. previous experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in an engineering or scientific environment, strong understanding of safety regulations and protocols applicable to laboratory operations, excellent organizational and communication skills, ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders and be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications. A Master's degree preferred.
