Alaqua Animal Refuge, Inc. is Hiring an Intake Coordinator Near Freeport, FL

POSITION PURPOSE: 

The Intake Coordinator plays a crucial role in the intake process, ensuring that animals are admitted into our rescue efficiently and with the highest standard of care. This position requires a strong understanding of animal welfare principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with team members and external partners.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  •  Intake Coordination: Coordinate the intake of animals into the rescue, including assessing the needs of incoming animals, coordinating transportation if necessary, and ensuring that all necessary paperwork is completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Health Assessment: Conduct basic visual health assessments of incoming animals, including checking for signs of illness or injury, and communicating to Veterinary care team.
  • Behavioral Evaluation: Assess the behavior and temperament of incoming animals to determine their suitability for adoption and to identify any specific needs or training requirements.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all animals admitted into the rescue, including medical records, behavior assessments, and any other relevant information.
  • Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for individuals surrendering animals to the rescue, providing compassionate support and guidance throughout the intake process. Communicate with all entities requesting to surrender or transfer animals to AAR.
  • Shelter Visits: Evaluate and determine intakes of animals at other shelters, rescues and groups within the Panhandle region.
  • Community Outreach: Collaborate with local animal control agencies, shelters, and other rescue organizations to facilitate the transfer of animals into our care and to promote our mission within the community.

Qualifications:

Previous shelter experience and dog training knowledge required.

 Competencies:

  • Passion for animal welfare and a commitment to the mission and values of Alaqua Animal Refuge.
  • Previous experience working with animals in a shelter, rescue, veterinary clinic, or similar setting required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations, with a focus on providing excellent customer service to individuals and organizations surrendering animals to the rescue.
  • Knowledge of basic animal care principles and experience conducting basic health and behavior assessments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and to establish positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Required education and experience- Previous shelter experience and general knowledge of dog behavior.

Preferred education- Certified in animal training

Classification- Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

Position type and expected hours of work- Full Time, 40 hours per week. Weekend and holiday shifts expected. Typical work hours are between 8 AM and 4:30 P.M. Due to the cyclical nature of the industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to meet the needs of the business. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
