Alaska Commercial Company is Hiring an E-Commerce Grocery Sales Manager Near Anchorage, AK

The Sales Manager for Span Alaska Sales, a subsidiary of The North West Company International (NWCI), is accountable to lead the profitable sales growth of our business in Alaska within the strategic directions and tasks provided by the VP of Wholesale. Acting as the face of our brand, this role ensures the careful representation of Span, PAW, and Alaska Commercial Company (ACC) by thoughtfully identifying each of our new wholesale partners. This role prioritizes in personalized engagement with retail customers and businesses throughout Rural Alaska. The day-to-day work includes managing and developing the Span Elite sales team, effective prospecting and development of new sales opportunities, responding to inbound web or email inquiries promptly, and conducting sales calls and in-person meetings with potential partners. This role is also a focal point within the direct retail program as a whole, and largely personifies the overall direction of our visible brand presence within Alaska.

Key accountabilities:
  • Directly accountable for Span Sales and Profit Operations team
    • Monitor performance and assigned tasks of reporting employees
    • Oversight of all operational aspects of e-commerce platform, Span Elite, currently with 6-10 employees
  • Identify and secure new customers for our retail, commercial, and institutional businesses
    • Conduct research to identify best prospects; continuously look for new business opportunities
    • Meet with business owners or business managers to assess the needs of the customer and how best PAW can service their needs
    • Manage customer satisfaction through regular contact with customers
  • Sales management
    • Analyze past sales trends, plan future sales to forecast and order required model mix to meet store targets for top-end sales and bottom-line profit
    • Develop and monitor social media advertising and customer interactions
    • Create sales plans by market segment for retail, commercial, and institutional businesses
    • Monitor call center performance and provide feedback and best advice to PAW operations manager
    • Develop advertising and catalog programs for Span and Span Elite (e-commerce)
  • Continuously report on market activities
    • Monitor competitors, market conditions, and product development, and make adjustments as needed
    • Keep up to date on all changes in the market and seasonal needs of the customers
    • Create advertising and promotions to drive sales
  • Promote community relations to the community at large
    • Attend and participate in local community events, trade shows, Chamber of Commerce meetings and local charity events
  • Maintain sales tracking and documentation
    • Demonstrate weekly completion of sales activity goals, leading up to the assignment of results-based sales goals
    • Provide annual budget recommendations based on sales trends, competitive activity, and the Alaska economic outlook
Desired skills & experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent from a 4-year college or 3-year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Intermediate knowledge and ability using MS Office 2007 and above
  • Extensive MS Office Suite experience, including above-average knowledge of Excel
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Previous sales, retail, or hospitality experience a must; must be able to sell and make appropriate recommendations to customers
  • Ability to meet all country or region immigration regulations and have valid documents to meet these qualifications
  • Self-motivated to work quickly and efficiently to complete the entire task within time limits
  • Able to correctly manage time and meet deadlines and targets
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new working environments, situations, and cultures
  • 5 years retail experience in a supervisory role, retail management and/or previous sales experience preferred
  • Experience with Profit and Loss statement, review, budgeting and operating statement review
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Knowledge of rural Alaska shipping methods and Alaska Native Corporations helpful
  • Superior organization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while prioritizing deadlines
Working Conditions:
  • Work in a fast-paced warehouse and office environment
  • Lift 40 pounds regularly
  • Work extended hours several times a week
  • Intermittent periods of computer work; able to sit or stand in one place for long periods of time
  • Multiple phone calls and meetings on a daily/weekly basis
