Front Desk Specialist - Cashier

Classification: Full-time, non-exempt

Reports to: Wasilla Manager

Department: Front Desk

Summary/Objective

The Front Desk Specialist - Cashier is responsible for handling all financial transactions at the point of service, ensuring accurate payment processing and data entry. This role is crucial for maintaining financial accuracy and patient satisfaction during the check-out process.

Essential Functions

  1. Process payments from patients, provide account balances, issue receipts, and ensure financial data is entered accurately.
  2. Code, balance, and post transactions, including over-the-counter payments and bank card transactions.
  3. Reconcile daily cash and prepare bank deposits.
  4. Retrieve charge information from physicians to complete the billing process.
  5. Maintain and update patient payment records and financial reports.
  6. Assist with scheduling follow-up appointments and cover check-in specialist duties as needed.
  7. Participate in ongoing educational activities to improve billing and coding knowledge.
  8. Adhere to HIPAA guidelines and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

Qualifications

  1. Must have computer skills and the ability to navigate the electronic health records system.
  2. Strong ability to multi-task with high degree of accuracy, attention to detail a must.
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  4. Superior verbal and written skills
  5. Strong interpersonal skills essential
  6. Concern for satisfied employees and customers; strong sense of mission
  7. Proficiency in cash handling and collecting payments.
  8. Education: High School diploma is required. Further education in optometry, or related field preferred

Work Environment

This job operates in a clinical setting within a professional office environment. This role routinely uses ophthalmic equipment and standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, scanners and filing cabinets.

The work week: Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week.
