Summary:
Provide occupational health and safety expertise to department and the organization. Responsible for providing expertise in identifying gaps in compliance, risk assessments, and recommending solutions for occupational, and environmental health and workforce safety issues.

Responsibilities:
Safety and Health Training. Employs the fundamentals of health communication and adult learning to develop and deliver effective safety and health training. Develops effective safety and health messages using multimedia. Promote widespread awareness of best practices in occupational safety and health, extending from ANTHC to rural Alaska Native people. Construction site safety and health consultation. Travels to construction sites in rural communities to evaluate safety and health conditions and behaviors, and produces professional consultative reports including recommendations based on industry best practices. Reviews project safety documentation and key performance indicators, identifies trends and opportunities, and produces safety performance reports. Incident and injury investigation. Works with electronic incident reporting and occupational health database systems, and analyze occupational injuries and illnesses, safety and health incidents, and related metrics. Investigate and develop risk improvement actions, identifying injuries, patterns or trends that require targeted hazard assessments. Investigate occupational injuries, illnesses, and incidents. Provide education and coaching to division leadership, supervisors and safety personnel in incident investigation. Risk Assessment and Hazard Controls. Identifies and analyzes workplace hazards that can result in harm to people, property and the environment. Applies the methods and techniques of Safety Science to develop hazard controls. Assure compliance with Federal and State construction and general industry health and safety regulations. Produce professional reports of safety risk and cost-benefit analysis of control implementation. Ergonomics. Perform ergonomic assessments of the workplace, physical setting and/or workstations, and identifies improvement opportunities. Assist with coordination of the ergonomics program to include assessments, training, equipment and other components. Performs other duties as assigned.

M INIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
A ssociate’s degree in a safety related field, such as occupational safety and health, environmental health, environmental science, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, experience and certifications.
M INIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
N on-supervisory – Two (2) years of experience in occupational safety and health, environmental health, public health/injury prevention, emergency response & preparedness, and/or industrial hygiene.
M INIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
N /A
P REFERRED EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
A Bachelor's degree in a safety related field, such as occupational safety and health, environmental health, environmental science, or related field.
P REFERRED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
E xperience in construction safety, developing/delivering safety training, and working in rural Alaska communities.
P REFERRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
C onstruction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST), Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar certification.
