Responsibilities:

Provides physical therapy assessment and treatment of patients in an accurate and timely manner per plan of care created by a licensed physical therapist. Frequently communicates with a licensed physical therapist on any positive or negative assessments noted in a patient’s treatment, at least once a week. Identifies if there are any changes needed in the patient’s plan of care and communicates the changes to a licensed physical therapist.

Adheres to the regulatory and practice standards of physical therapy. Documents treatment outcomes and findings.

May assist in coordination of patient discharge and equipment needs. Facilitates the acquisition of durable medical equipment/devices based patient and physical therapist assessment and CMS criteria for medical necessity.

Educates patient/family with physical therapy exercises, activities and equipment following care plans created by a licensed physical therapist.

Maintains statistical information of referrals and treatments.

Supervises, trains and delegates activities of support staff, interns and volunteers. Develops staff skills and training plans. Provides patient, family and community education. Acts as clinical instructor for student physical therapist assistants; provides educational opportunities for volunteers to observe; and promotes the field of physical therapy.

An Associate’s degree in Physical Therapist Assistant from an accredited college program.

· Current Physical Therapist Assistant license in the State of Alaska, or

· Current Physical Therapist Assistant license in another state, but must obtain State of Alaska license within 6 months of hire.

· Current Basic Life Support card required.
