Position Description:

The Alaska SPCA is a nonprofit organization that advocates for pets across Alaska. We strongly believe that animals, being living creatures, are entitled to basic rights related to their care, treatment, and protection. Our primary mission is to alleviate the suffering of dogs and cats in Alaska.

This mission is achieved by:

• Preventing cruelty to animals.
• Advocating for the ethical and moral treatment of animals.
• Providing shelter and care to animals in need.
• Educating the public on responsible animal ownership.
• Offering affordable spay and neuter programs.
• Providing low-cost vaccinations.

Job Summary: 

The Development Assistant is responsible for providing support to the Development Manager on development efforts as the Alaska SPCA continues to grow. This position requires accurate data entry skills and strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:

• Donor data entry and gift processing.
• Manage data collection of and scheduling for volunteers.

• Establish and maintain friendly business relationships with donors & volunteers. 

• Encourage volunteers to stay engaged and committed for extended periods of time by providing a positive and rewarding experience that meets their needs and interests.
• Create new volunteer opportunities depending on the needs of the organization and manage scheduling. 

• Assist with fundraising efforts and special events.
• Be flexible in attitude and work habits. 

• Create print marketing materials related to fundraising.
• Supervise the Pet Resource Center by organizing donations, handling payments, and overseeing volunteers.
• Must be able to move/lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Express a genuine liking for animals and for working in an animal care environment.

Qualifications:

• HS graduate or equivalent.
• 1-3 years of experience in customer service. 
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Prior experience working with databases.
• Prefer experience developing and managing volunteer networks.
• Work productively as a member of a diverse team.

Job Status:

• Non-exempt; Full-time: 40 hours a week.
