The San Leandro Milk Plant, located in San Leandro, CA, has an opening for a Plant Controls Manager. The expected pay range for this role is $130,000 - $150,000 annually. 

The Controls Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation, and maintenance of electronic control systems within our organization. This role requires understanding of programming languages, electrical systems, and control theory. The Controls Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of automated processes, maintaining quality standards, and optimizing system performance.

Manage engineering and maintenance services to achieve maximum financial results from the plants capital expenditures, maintenance expenditures, production equipment and fixed assets.

Qualifications:

• 4 year college degree in engineering preferred.
• 6-8 years in manufacturing/production environment with industry experience.
• 3 years manufacturing plant engineering/management experience which includes financial management and project development and project management experience.
• Proficiency in programming PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and SCADA systems.
• In-depth knowledge of control theory, instrumentation, and process control techniques.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex control system issues.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (e.g., NEC, ISA, UL) pertaining to control system design and safety.
• Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results within deadlines
• Experienced in department budget management.
• Proven skills in preventive maintenance.
• Ability to interface with regulatory agencies.
• Knowledge of Capital Project Development, Cost Estimation and Management.
• Managing/Scheduling/Developing Human Resources.
• Interpersonal and Team Building skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Working knowledge of Heat Transfer, Material Handling, Fluid Mechanics.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project. Previous experience with Automated Control Systems PLCs and PCs.
• Lean manufacturing principals.
• Vendor relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough testing of control systems to ensure proper functionality and performance.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose issues related to hardware, software, and communication interfaces.
• Implement corrective actions and solutions to address identified problems.
• Create comprehensive documentation including system specifications, wiring diagrams, user manuals, and maintenance procedures.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations related to control system design and operation.
• Maintain accurate records of system configurations, modifications, and maintenance activities.
• Provide training to operations and maintenance personnel on the use and maintenance of control systems.
• Offer technical support and assistance to resolve control-related issues as they arise.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in control systems engineering.
• Manage engineering and maintenance services and ensure operational reliability.
• Oversee preventative maintenance compliance and effectiveness.
• Develop, monitor and ensure timely completion of plant goals/action plans, both short and long term.
• Drive operational improvements to reduce costs and to increase productivity.
• Plan, manage and execute capital asset program in compliance with Annual Operating Plan and established policy.
• Have or develop a network base with equipment vendors.
• Provide the day-to-day operational leadership for mechanics and associated personnel.
• Develop a work environment within manufacturing that promotes trust, teamwork quality and safety.
• Assign accountability, build teams, hire, develop, evaluate, train, discipline.
• Ensure the adherence to Safeway policies, practices, and procedures.
• Handle union grievances.
• Communicate items of interest or concern to employees and Plant Manager via written and oral communication.
• Ensure production of a quality product in compliance with Safeway, Federal and State guidelines Ensure regulatory compliance as appropriate (OSHA, EPA, FDA, USDA, HACCP, Etc.)
