Albuquerque Public Schools is Hiring an EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT - .5 PART TIME BEHAVIOR RE-DIRECTOR Near Albuquerque, NM
To provide a behavior redirection/intervention program at school site . ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:
Provides behavior redirection strategies to reduce the use of punishment techniques and promote learning.
Guides student's behavior from inappropriate to appropriate.
Provides immediate and consistent interventions for students with inappropriate, disruptive behavior(s).
Meets with students referred for inappropriate behavior(s) and intervenes early in the behavior cycle.
Shortens the time a student is out of the classroom due to inappropriate behavior(s).
Provides a structured format which helps students investigate their inappropriate behavior(s).
Helps students focus on positive choices.
Develops written plans with students, teachers and/or families to improve inappropriate behavior(s).
Returns student to the classroom, as soon as possible, with a plan for positive choices that enable learning to occur.
Keeps accurate records and utilizes district logs for all students served.
Serves as a model in developing students' language and positive behavior.
Provides observation and consultation, as needed, for teachers to reduce disruptive, inappropriate student behaviors in the classroom.
Attends required trainings annually, as determined by the Counseling Department.
All Behavioral Redirectors must attend Non-violent Crisis Intervention training
New Behavior Redirectors must attend an orientation training.
DUTIES: In addition to the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must perform the following duties:
Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Albuquerque Public Schools.
Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.
Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.
Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
Maintains professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within area of responsibility.
Regularly attends and participates on the school's Health and Wellness Team
Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE: Preferences include:
Education Assistant Experience
Behavior Management Experience
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.
Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects.
REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED.
Licensure based on State Department of Education Regulation No. 90-5
Must be at least 18 years old.
Experience with educational equipment preferred.
