The Albuquerque Journal, New Mexico’s largest daily newspaper, is seeking a Human Resources Director. The HR Director plays a critical role in fostering a work environment that attracts, develops, and retains top talent, while promoting the values of honesty, integrity, respect, impartiality, and objectivity.
This position is responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies that support our diverse workforce, which spans a range of generations from baby boomers to generation Z. This position is instrumental in supporting the Albuquerque Journal through its strategic planning efforts to stay at the forefront of technology and media evolution.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the company’s overall mission and strategic plans. Lead the HR Department in initiatives that support organizational growth and employee development.
· Talent Management: Oversee recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes to ensure they are efficient, effective, and reflective of our inclusive values. Implement programs to retain high-caliber staff across all generational cohorts within our workforce.
· Performance Management: Design and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance and aligns with organizational goals. Provide constructive feedback and coaching to team members.
· Training and Development: Identify training needs and design development programs to enhance employees’ skills and competencies, with a focus on emerging technologies and digital transformation.
· Employee Relations: Act as a mediator in resolving workplace conflicts and advocate for a healthy work environment that respects diversity and promotes inclusion.
· Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure that all HR practices comply with federal, state, and local regulations. Keep abreast of legal developments affecting HR and adjust policies and practices to maintain compliance
Requirements:· Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
· A minimum of 7 years of HR experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial or manager-level role.
· Demonstrated ability to develop and implement HR strategies that align with business goals.
· Strong understanding of labor laws and regulatory compliance.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of staff and management.
· Proven leadership skills with a track record of fostering an inclusive and productive workplace environment.
· Strong proficiency in MS Office suite, HRIS administration, and Federal and State regulations pertaining to benefit and employment regulations.
