Alcohol & Drug Freedom Center of Knox County is Hiring a Prevention Educator Near Mount Vernon, OH

Alcohol and Drug Freedom Center of Knox County is seeking a Prevention Educator to provide school-based drug and alcohol prevention education using Second Step and Too Good for Drugs curriculums for school children. This is a 10-month seasonal position (full-time during the school year with summers off). This full-time position provides a comprehensive benefit package, including a generous PTO package, Health/Dental/Vision insurance, and a 403(b) retirement plan with employer contribution. Alcohol and Drug Freedom Center of Knox County is a Federal Loan Forgiveness Participant.

As a Prevention Educator, you will be expected to:

  • Utilize program curriculums to provide effective drug and alcohol prevention education to school-age students by communicating relevant and age-appropriate information via games, songs, lessons, and lectures.
  • Keep accurate service documentation in accordance with the agency policies and procedures
  • Assist in the development of current and long-term programmatic goals and objectives.
  • Pursue adequate and appropriate training so that skills in prevention presentations are enhanced and requirements for certification and/or licensing are satisfied.
  • Be willing to assist other team members and work to meet all programmatic goals and funding obligations.
  • Represent The Freedom Center within the community with professionalism and respect for teachers, administrators, and students.

To be qualified for this position, you will need to have a minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) or Associate's Degree in social work, education, or a human service field. Must become a Registered Applicant for the Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist Assistant (OCPSA) credentialing within 30 days of employment if not currently certified. The Freedom Center will provide training for the position, including paying for the online or in-person trainings for the curriculums and materials. Because you will be working with children in a school environment, prior teaching, public speaking, and training skills are a plus. Experience in prevention education, health education, public health, or community health is preferred.
