Alice Noble Ice Arena is Hiring a Director of Operations Near Wooster, OH

Position Summary:

The Director of Operations works closely with the General Manager to manage and maintain the facility. The Director of Operations primary duty is to ensure great ice and an exceptional facility for our patrons. This includes maintenance of the ice, operation and upkeep of the Zamboni as well as other equipment. Additional responsibilities include managing the building’s plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, and electrical systems. This position is responsible for ensuring the facility is always clean and safe for patrons. Priorities include, but are not limited to the successful delivery of all aspects of ice events, overseeing all building and ice repairs, assisting in inventory and budget controls, managing the hiring, training, and scheduling of ice technicians and maintenance staff. The Director of Operations reports directly to the General Manager and serves as the second person in charge at the Arena. 

Essential Functions

  • Manages the daily operation of the rink, including but not limited to scheduling, maintenance, event management, and working closely with the General Manager to monitor operating budgets.
  • Hiring and coordination of outside contractors for equipment preventive maintenance and repairs of facility equipment.
  • Oversees and manages the maintenance technicians to ensure the ice and building is in safe and presentable order.
  • Reports regularly on facility and ice conditions. 
  • Oversees all ice and building repairs to ensure they are completed in a safe and timely manner.
  • Oversees ice removal and installation as required.
  • Reports mechanical failures and assess action required.
  • Responsible for operating the building in a manner that exceeds industry standards while controlling costs.
  • Effectively and creatively plan to ensure Alice Noble Ice Arena is a premier facility.
  • Reports regularly on facility activities and operations.
  • Maintains and coordinates all aspects of the facility and ensures timely and necessary maintenance.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper ice maintenance and maintenance and cleaning of areas surrounding ice such as boards, glass, and bench area.
  • Oversees and assists in the general maintenance and cleanliness of the skating center including the lobby, locker rooms, and public areas.
  • Assist and advise with all capital projects related to the successful operation of the building.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty when assigned
  • Promote a culture of professionalism and respect while supporting skaters in their development and success
  • Collaborates with major arena tenants including WYHA, Ohio Prospects, College of Wooster to ensure a positive experience for these programs in the building. 
  • Other duties as necessary or designated by General Manager

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Minimum Level of Education Required: High School or equivalent. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of ice rink technical and/or facility management experience.
  • US Ice Rink Association CIT or CIRM certification preferred.
  • OSHA 10 certificate preferred. 
  • Ammonia safety certificate preferred. 
  • Mobile Equipment experience required. 
  • Ice Resurfacer experience required. 
  • Strong communication skills, particularly oral communication (ability to communicate by telephone).
  • Project management expertise.
  • Anticipates and effectively handles change; demonstrates willingness to try new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.
  • Highly motivated with good leadership skills and respectful communication
  • Ability to apply conflict resolution and problem-solving skills in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to express ideas clearly through professional oral and written communication
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and control
  • Effectively work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have and maintain a clean background check
  • Experienced in Microsoft 365

 Work Environment 

  • Consistent evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
  • Ability to work late evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Access to a car and ability to travel locally for work-related errands. Must have had a valid unrestricted U.S. Driver’s License for one year and maintain throughout. employment an insurable or satisfactory driving record.
  • May be required to work during weather emergencies. Additional Experience, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to work in inclement weather conditions. 
  • Required to bend, twist, walk, stand, or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Role is performed primarily indoors in a cold environment
