About Us, ALIMA

For 15 years, The Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA), has been transforming medical care in sub-Saharan Africa, providing critical treatment in emergency situations, while building up the region’s health systems for sustained care. Based in Dakar, ALIMA is a locally-led nonprofit that invests in homegrown talent, building capacity, medical research, and implementing treatment innovations to address the realities of the communities we serve.

To date, we’re proud to share that ALIMA has treated over 10 million patients — 80% of them women and children — conducted 40 peer-reviewed studies, and garnered international recognition for our treatments of childhood malnutrition and Ebola.

About this Project

Established in 2015 to increase support among US audiences, ALIMA USA (that’s us) is launching a campaign, Fall 2024, to increase awareness and support for our maternal health and childhood development programs in Sub-Saharan Africa. To maximize the reach and effectiveness of the campaign, ALIMA USA is seeking the expertise of a public relations professional to help with PR strategy and outreach. 

In keeping with our history of award-winning campaigns that center creative storytelling produced with world-respected artists like Lossapardo and Six N. Five and elevated by media influencers, including Nurse Alice Benjamin, Badara Ndiaye, and Dr. Robert Singleton, this year’s campaign will feature artful illustrations, poetic stories of challenge and triumph, elegant sound design, relevant cultural influencers to carry the message, and at least one event (ALIMA’s annual gala and auction, held in December). 

By incorporating a dedicated PR push led by expert practitioners (that’s you), this year’s campaign can build on the momentum gained from our prior, “We Are the Solution,” and, “Breath for All,” campaigns, both of which were honored by the prestigious Shorty Awards, yet only generated a handful of media placements. 

Where You Come In: PR Scope of Work 

  • Develop a campaign PR plan and timeline, leading up to launch in October 2024 and concluding at the end of December 2024
  • Strategize and craft targeted pitches and media lists for outreach across relevant sectors (e.g. philanthropy, global health news, marketing and advertising trade, art and creative, human interest, etc.) 
  • Develop pitch angles for the campaign’s launch, and additional angles corresponding with moments throughout the campaign (events, auctions, influencer partnerships, merchandise roll-out, successes, etc.)
  • Prepare press releases and materials for media outreach 
  • Pitch stories, respond to media requests, and help coordinate interviews 
  • Participate in check-in calls to discuss campaign plans, share PR ideas, give updates on outreach, and proactively identify and help problem-solve challenges along the way
  • Create and distribute coverage summaries and wrap reports to demonstrate progress toward objectives
