AlivaMab Biologics is seeking an outstanding Senior Scientist, Protein Sciences to lead our protein purification and characterization efforts. This position will be responsible for conducting antibody and protein purification at various scales, and for measuring key protein attributes by leveraging strong expertise in biophysical characterization and biochemical modification. The successful candidate will report to the Sr. Director of Antibody Engineering and Protein Sciences and work closely with scientists and leaders in the Antibody Discovery, Protein Sciences, and Project Management teams. The position requires a large body of work at the lab bench. This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the expansion of antibody discovery and engineering capabilities and new technologies for antibody drug discovery at AlivaMab Biologics.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute purification strategies for recombinant proteins from a variety of host cells (mammalian, bacterial cells).
• Develop and optimize workflows for high-throughput purification and characterization of antibodies, bi-specifics, and other biologics modalities.
• Design, develop and execute chromatography methods on AKTA, implement and conduct multi-step purification for challenging format such as bi-specific molecules.
• Biophysical characterization of purified proteins using appropriate instrumentation, including but not limited to HPLC, Capillary electrophoresis, LC-MS, and DSF.
• Troubleshoot and persevere on difficult projects to successful conclusions.
• Responsible for supporting the needs of multiple projects and objectives in parallel.
• Document the work in ELN, maintaining reagents inventory both physically and electronically.
• Prepare technical summaries, protocols, and maintenance of appropriate documentation.

• Lead technology development for protein purification workflows.
• Interact and collaborate with leaders and teams across antibody discovery, antibody engineering, protein sciences, and project management on project delivery and new technology development.
• Create precise technical summaries and protocols, and maintain proper documentation and data reporting in ELN.
• This is a full-time and lab-based position.

Qualifications

Key Skills and Requirements:

• PhD in a relevant scientific area, such as antibody or protein engineering, protein biochemistry, or biotechnology, plus at least 4 years of professional experience in biologics research or MS degree in similar discipline with at least 6 years of relevant industry experience.
• Extensive chromatography experience using AKTA instrumentation is necessary.
• Experience with biologics drug discovery and development is strongly desired.
• Hands-on experience with HPLC instrumentation from Agilent or Vanquish.
• Hands-on experience with SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS and other characterization techniques is required.
• Familiar with construct design for challenging targets in various expression systems is desired, with a solid understanding of vector elements and utilization of solubility enhancing elements.
• Experience with antibody and protein engineering is strongly preferred.
• Excellent communicator and highly effective in interacting with key internal and external stakeholders.
• Team player and builder, possess great coaching skills, and have great organizational skills.
• High degree of integrity and professionalism and dedication to exceptional quality.

The compensation range for this position is $120,000 180,000 per annum.
