Broad Statement of Responsibilities: The Medical Director of Integrative Psychiatry and Professional Services at Plus by APN plays a pivotal role in the delivery of interventional psychiatry services and professional assessments under the guidance and direction of the Chief Operating Officer. This hybrid role entails providing expert clinical guidance and oversight for psychiatric services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care, and implementing best practices in treatment. The Medical Director collaborates closely with the Vice President, Plus by APN, and other key stakeholders to develop, approve, and update clinical policies, protocols, and procedures. They support clinic-level physicians and mid-level providers, fostering a collaborative and efficient clinical environment. This multifaceted role involves direct patient care, policy development, emergency medical protocols, quality assurance, clinical supervision, training, scheduling, managing the on-call provider schedule, and supporting quality improvement efforts to enhance service delivery. Additionally, this role includes duties related to assessing and managing clients referred from state physician health programs and providing continuing education for medical professionals and psychotherapists. The Medical Director promptly addresses any clinical issues, maintaining the organization's standards of care and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. 

 

Position Duties and Responsibilities: Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Directly supervise staff-level psychiatrists and mid-level practitioners related to Plus by APN services. 

Medical Directorship - Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation: 

  • Responsible for ensuring TMS Psychiatric Evaluations and approval across Plus by APN locations within the shortest possible period. 
  • Responsible for TMS prescriptive authority across Plus by APN locations. 
  • Approve motor threshold guidance and re-motor threshold guidance. 
  • Conduct peer-to-peer reviews as needed. 

Medical Directorship - Ketamine/Spravato: 

  • Responsible for ensuring Ketamine Psychiatric Evaluations and approval across Plus by APN locations are conducted within the shortest possible period. 
  • Hold Ketamine prescriptive authority across Plus by APN locations. 
  • Oversee NP/RN SGB administration and continuously improve the process. 

Medical Directorship - Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: 

  • Responsible for ensuring Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy evaluations and approvals are conducted efficiently across Plus by APN locations. 
  • Hold authority for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy protocols and treatments across Plus by APN locations. 
  • Oversee the administration of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy by medical staff and continuously improve the process. 

Medical Directorship - qEEG/Neurofeedback: 

  • Responsible for overseeing the clinical aspects of EEG/Neurofeedback delivered by EEG Technicians at Plus by APN locations. 
  • Review findings as needed. 

Quality Assurance and Compliance: 

  • Conduct peer reviews through random audits and formal reviews every two years. 
  • Assess provider competencies and adherence to APN policies and procedures. 
  • Implement corrective actions for providers scoring below 90% compliance with Policies and Procedures. 
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations concerning interventional psychiatry services delivered at Plus by APN locations. 
  • Collect and integrate feedback to improve patient care and service delivery. 

Oversight of Medical and Psychiatric Care: 

  • Ensure the medical and psychiatric care of clients. 
  • Communicate with staff for consultation purposes. 
  • Monitor overall client healthcare. 
  • Allocate a significant portion of time (50%) to direct client care, acting as an overflow provider as needed. 
  • Support the implementation of medical services and technological advancements. 

Emergency Medical Protocols: 

  • Respond to client medical emergencies by coordinating care and calling emergency services when necessary. 
  • Ensure documentation of the medical emergency and subsequent actions taken. 
  • Participate in managing clinical emergencies and crises with competency. 

Clinical Supervision and Training: 

  • Provide clinical direction and supervision to the treatment teams at Plus by APN Locations.
  • Ensure continuous education and training relevant to services provided by personnel. 
  • Stay abreast of advancements in medical research, treatments, and best practices within the field. 
  • Maintain licensure in all states where Plus by APN services are offered and pursue continuous education and professional development. 

Leadership and Collaboration: 

  • Support the Chief Operating Officer in maintaining and fostering relationships with senior management, clinical teams, and external partners. 
  • Advocate for evidence-based practices, ensuring care quality through metrics and evaluation tools. 
  • Uphold ethical standards, emphasizing patient confidentiality and informed consent. 
  • Contribute to maintaining operational efficiency and provider productivity within the organization. 
  • Represent the organization in professional circles, contributing to its status as a leader in the field. 

Physician of Record: 

  • Serve as the Physician of Record for billing with insurance panels across Plus by APN locations. 
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable licensure requirements. 
  • Oversee the accuracy and completeness of medical documentation for insurance billing. 
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance panel requirements and regulations. 

Cultural Competency and Patient Care: 

  • Implement and support strategies that promote cultural competency and address the needs of diverse patient demographics. 

Productivity and Efficiency: 

  • Personally operate with at least 50% efficiency, providing a minimum of 4 hours of direct care daily. 
  • Ensure direct reports operate with at least 63% efficiency, providing a minimum of 5 hours of direct care daily. 
  • Monitor and report on productivity metrics to ensure optimal use of resources and staff. 

Scheduling and Managing On-call Provider Schedule: 

  • Develop and manage the provider schedule to ensure coverage and continuity of care. 
  • Coordinate with providers to ensure availability and readiness for on-call duties. 
  • Address any scheduling conflicts and ensure coverage of shifts. 

Clients from State Physician Health Programs: 

  • Conduct thorough fitness-for-duty psychiatric assessments of clients referred from state physician health programs. 
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for these clients. 
  • Monitor progress and provide regular updates to the referring programs. 
  • Collaborate with state physician health programs involved in the care of these clients. 
  • Ensure all documentation and reporting requirements for state physician health programs are met. 

Brand Ambassador: 

  • Develop key relationships, execute industry events, and participate in training and lectures to create market exposure for Plus by APN. 
  • Lead a Plus by APN podcast and participate on other platforms. 
  • Identify innovative procedures, medicines, and technologies to deploy at Plus by APN locations. 

Research and Development: 

  • Collaborate with colleges and universities for research partnerships. 
  • Identify other organizations/universities for research opportunities. 

Training and Education: 

  • Train outside providers and deliver interventional psychiatry services at Plus by APN actions as part of the APN University initiative.
  • Spread knowledge of interventional psychiatry techniques and make All Points North a leader in this field, especially in interventional psychiatry and psychedelics. 

APN Lodge Support: 

  • Provide direct client care as needed for complex mental health clients and Professional Health Program clients.

Travel Requirements: 

  • Up to 50% travel is required, primarily within the local area for training and professional development (CME). 
  • Travel between Boulder/Denver/Edwards, CO; Malibu, CA; Naples, FL and DFW, TX, as needed for work assignments. 
  • Attendance at conferences, seminars, and private doctor events throughout the US and in international countries to promote the services available at the facility. 

Extent of Travel Requirements: 

  • As needed for professional development and training purposes. 

Purpose of Travel: 

  • Travel may include coverage for other facilities, professional meetings, and collaborative efforts with different APN departments or sites. 

Requirements

Qualifications: 

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school. 
  • Completed a US accredited psychiatry residency program. 
  • The ability to support a positive clinical environment and work collaboratively with the Vice President, Plus by APN under the guidance of the Chief Operating Officer. 
  • Commitment to providing exceptional healthcare, with the capability to oversee documentation and insurance matters. 
  • Knowledge of substance use and mental health disorders, with a strong background in behavioral health. 
  • Current Physician license in good standing, with experience in detox, residential, and outpatient care settings. 
  • Familiarity with Ketamine, TMS and other interventional psychiatric modalities.
  • Proficiency in medical record documentation and commitment to professional development. 
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead and inspire a medical team. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and cultural competence. 
  • Must possess certification of all Plus by APN services within 60 days of hire. 
  • Must possess legal right to work in the United States. 

Experience: A minimum of seven years of experience in a direct psychiatric care setting, with at least three years in a supervisory or leadership role, in substance use disorder and mental health treatment, is required. Experience and competence with EMR systems is also required. 

Special Skills & Knowledge: 

  • Expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of psychiatric disorders. 
  • Proficiency in psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. 
  • Ability to manage complex cases and provide comprehensive care. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle psychiatric emergencies. 
  • Excellent communication skills are essential for effective leadership, patient care, and professional interactions. The ability to strategize, implement quality improvements, and adapt to changing conditions is crucial. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be capable of routine physical activities, including standing, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds. 
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and sit for extended periods.
