A resume may not be substituted for an application.Position SummaryThe Public Health Information Officer supports the mission of the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) to protect, promote, and preserve the health and well-being of all Allegheny County residents, particularly the most vulnerable. This individual will lead all ACHD communications activities and coordinates the communications as part of the overall county government. The Public Health Information Officer reports directly to the ACHD Chief Operating Officer and Director with oversight from the Allegheny County Communications Director. The Public Health Information Officer oversees program information specialists, the call center team, and a small marketing team. The ACHD is the public health department for the 1.25 million people and 130 municipalities (including Pittsburgh) of Allegheny County. In September of 2017, the ACHD became a nationally accredited public health department. With a budget of approximately $37 million annually, the ACHD has a diverse staff of approximately 400 people. Duties
Works collaboratively with all aspects of the ACHD and is primarily responsible for the cultivation of all messaging and materials to ensure the ACHD has and maintains a coherent and clear voice for public health in Allegheny County
Plans and conducts all public health information programming in alignment with the ACHD’s strategic plan
Conveys information, both written and oral, to professionals and the public using a variety of approaches with linguistic and cultural proficiency
Recommends to the Director and others, as appropriate, approaches for disseminating public health data and information
Establishes and maintains extensive relationships with media and public contacts
Oversee the management of content on the ACHD intranet
Incorporates ethical standards of practice into all interactions with individuals, organizations, and communities
Responds to public health emergencies.
