The primary responsibility of the Lead Care Staff is to assume basic responsibilities of the Resident Services Director (RSD) and Assistant Resident Services Director (ARSD) in their absence. This includes assuring high-quality level of service to our residents. In this role, the Lead Care Staff person would assume such responsibilities as overall guidance and supervision of Care Staff to include such tasks as scheduling, handling call-offs, documentation compliance, coordination with outside medical personnel, checking flow sheets, and other related duties.

Areas of Responsibility

  • In absence of Resident Services Director, act as shift supervisor.
  • Monitor compliance with regard to Care Staff procedures to assure high quality levels of service to residents.
  • In conjunction with RSD, schedule associates.
  • During the shift assigned to this position, take all call-offs and find appropriate coverage.
  • Ensure that all documentation is correct and complete prior to end of assigned shift.
  • Ensure resident service back-up for the RSD when necessary.
  • Attend to normal Care Staff responsibilities along with fellow coworkers.
  • Assist with and/or complete Medication Assistant responsibilities as needed.
  • Oversee the resident call system and ensure that residents receive their pendants.
  • Work with visiting outside medical associates preparing for and during their visits.
  • Monitor apartments for clutter and safety issues.
  • Work with other departments to assure the Community and apartments are presentable for tours.
  • Check flow sheets for accuracy.
  • Assist with fall reports and other similar requests.
  • Assure DNR and demographic information is readily available in case of emergencies.
  • Train and advise Care Staff as directed by the RSD/ARSD.
  • Answer telephone appropriately following Company policy.
  • Attend and participate in all meetings and training as directed by Company policy and the RSD.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and name tag when on duty.
  • Be constantly watchful of signs that residents are not able to function independently or a change in resident’s behavior. Report all signs to the RSD and/or ARSD following the Company policies and procedures.
  • Report any and all deferred maintenance, vandalism or hazardous situations to the RSD/ARSD as discovered.
  • Ensure understanding of and compliance with all regulations regarding residents’ rights.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident, associate, Community or Company information deemed as such.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Requirements/Certifications:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. State specific guidelines may apply.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience with senior adults.
  • Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant and possess current Medication Training certification, and be in good standing with the state licensing or certifying agency.
  • Certification in CPR and first aid required.
  • In any Community with an Ensemble Program, must successfully complete required dementia training
  • Must be comfortable with computer use and have a working knowledge of appropriate. Microsoft Office programs. Previous experience with computerized resident documentation systems a plus.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Must have adaptability/flexibility, especially as it relates to resident services.
  • Must pay attention to detail and be able to prioritize. Must have initiative and be a self-starter.
  • Must be able to follow through with tasks and assignments.
  • Teamwork and good listening skills essential.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with residents, families, associates, community and state officials, and the general public.
  • Must have a positive Criminal Background Screening.
  • Must pass a physical having no signs or symptoms of a communicable disease including tuberculosis where required. Freedom from tuberculosis must be documented on an annual basis where required.
