Senior Scientific Project and Alliance Manager – Scientific Operations

The mission of the Allen Institute for Neural Dynamics (AIND) is to answer fundamental questions about brain function. Specifically, how does our brain build our understanding of the complex world around us to guide the flexible behaviors that address our biological needs? The answers will be in terms of defined neuron types interacting across the whole brain and body, requiring us to develop next-generation neurotechnologies and employ a team-based approach for discovery neuroscience. Knowledge, data, and tools will be widely shared, in part to support the development of therapies for brain disorders.

The Allen institute for Neural Dynamics is seeking a Sr. Scientific Project and Alliance Manager. We are looking for a leader with a background in science or science-oriented engineering to facilitate collaborative projects within the Allen Institute and with partners in industry and academic research centers across the world. The Sr Scientific Project and Alliance Manager will provide the operational and technical structure necessary for multi-disciplinary and multi-institution teams to drive discoveries based on mapping neural circuits and cutting-edge imaging and neurophysiology.

Essential Functions

  • Drive, coordinate, and support the scientific, technical and educational goals of AIND projects
  • Foster external alliances with partners in industry and academia
  • Create, maintain, and disseminate project deliverables and timelines, using project management best practices and tools
  • In partnership with scientific leads, ensure the execution of project deliverables
  • Work with all stakeholders to coordinate budget planning, forecasting, and monitoring
  • Assist with applications for external funding, using best practices for grant writing and management
  • Facilitate communication between scientific and administrative groups

Required Education and Experience

  • Ph.D. degree in neuroscience, biology, bioengineering or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 6 years of professional project management experience in a technical or scientific environment

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 8 years’ experience in project management
  • 5 years of post-PhD experience in research and development
  • Experience with collaboration management, communication, and dashboard/reporting tools
  • Formal project management training and/or PMP certification
  • Experience with external funding applications, including familiarity with the budget process and relevant compliance and post-award reporting requirements
  • Working knowledge in neuroscience, neurophysiology, microscopy, data science, Python programming

Physical Demands

  • Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment; repetitive motion with lab equipment

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This role is currently working onsite and is expected to work onsite for the majority of working hours. The primary work location for this role is 615 Westlake Ave N., with flexibility to work remotely on a limited basis. We are a Washington State employer; any remote work must be performed in Washington State.

Travel

  • Attendance and participation in national and/or international conferences may be required

Annualized Salary Range

  • $124,050 - $173,650 *

* Final salary depends on required education for the role, experience, and level of skills relevant to the role, along with work location, where applicable.
