Job DescriptionThe Toxin Innovation Group at AbbVie seeks a highly skilled and experienced associate scientist II with the experience in genetic engineering of microbial organisms. The successful candidate will play an integral role in supporting our efforts to design, engineer and optimize microbial strains for both aesthetic and therapeutic applications, driving the advancement of our product pipeline and contributing to the overall success of the company.
The ideal candidate will have training on designing and implementing molecular cloning techniques for the modification of microbial genomes to achieve specific phenotypic traits, preferably with anaerobic bacteria. The candidate will be able to maintain the laboratory environment and ELN documentation in compliance with regulatory and company expectations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute experiments to engineer microbial strains for enhanced production of target molecules or proteins.
  • Learn and apply genetic engineering tools and techniques for microbial strain engineering.
  • Conduct molecular biology techniques, including DNA manipulation, cloning, and gene expression analysis.
  • Perform microbial strain characterization, including growth kinetics and product analysis.
  • Collaborate with other team members to identify and prioritize target molecules and develop strategies for strain improvement.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, prepare technical reports, and present findings to internal team members.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, including experimental protocols, data, and observations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety guidelines and maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
