Starting Salary Range: $75,000/yr – salary is negotiable based on experience.

This position will follow a hybrid work model, balancing office-based tasks with on-site responsibilities while adhering to confidentiality and respectful treatment of coworkers, vendors, and customers. Travel to job sites across Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York is required, with the provision of a company-provided vehicle and cell phone to facilitate mobility and communication.

Job Summary:

The Safety Specialist will play a vital role in promoting and maintaining a safe work environment for our employees, subcontractors, and clients. This individual will work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and field personnel to implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures. This role does involve regular travel to job sites across Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York with a company-provided cell phone and vehicle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local safety regulations, as well as company safety policies and procedures.
  • Compliance Evaluation: Evaluate the organization's procedures, facilities, and equipment to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards. Provide recommendations for improvements and coordinate implementation efforts with relevant departments.
  • Job Site Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of job sites to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Safety Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and work processes to identify unsafe conditions and practices. Work with relevant stakeholders to implement safeguards and solutions to mitigate risks and enhance workplace safety
  • Safety Orientation: Conduct New Employee Safety Orientations.
  • Safety Training: Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and subcontractors, covering topics such as fall protection, electrical safety, and equipment operation. Additionally, responsible for coordinating and organizing the annual Safety Days event for all branches, ensuring its successful execution and participation from all relevant personnel.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Safety Documentation: Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incident reports, and other safety-related documentation.
  • Safety Communication: Communicate safety policies, procedures, and updates to employees and subcontractors through meetings, toolbox talks, and other channels.
  • Safety Improvement Initiatives: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety performance and implement initiatives to enhance safety culture and practices. Assist project teams in the preparation of site-specific safety programs.
  • Emergency Response: Coordinate emergency response procedures and serve as a point of contact during safety-related emergencies or incidents.
  • Injury Investigations: Lead thorough investigations into workplace injuries, documenting findings and identifying preventive measures to reduce the risk of future incidents.
  • Safety Data Collection and Reporting: Collect and analyze safety data, including accident reports, near misses, and hazardous waste management records. Prepare comprehensive reports on safety and accident events, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Hazardous Waste Management: Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with regulatory requirements. Develop and implement protocols for the safe management of hazardous waste across job sites.
  • Risk Mitigation: Utilize near miss data to identify potential hazards and proactively mitigate risks before they escalate into incidents. Collaborate with project teams to implement corrective actions and preventive measures based on near miss reports.
  • Safety Program Management: Develop, implement, and monitor safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulations. Regularly review and update safety documentation to reflect current best practices and regulatory requirements.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupation health & safety, environmental health, or related field (preferred)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupation Health and Safety Technician (OHST) certification is a plus
  • Previous experience in construction safety or related field, with knowledge of field safety requirements and equipment
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and industry safety standards

License/Certification:

  • Valid Driver’s License required

Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable):
