About The Position Position Summary Under the general supervision of the Regional Clinical Manager and the Medical Director or the Medical Director’s designee, the Polysomnographic Technologist performs adult and pediatric sleep studies. Trainees and Technicians work under the guidance of a technologist. Responsibilities are to include: Explain testing procedures to patient Apply all recording and monitoring electrodes Recognize and eliminate artifacts within PSG Calibrate and troubleshoot all equipment as needed to maintain quality data Apply appropriate testing and therapies as ordered and according to protocol Train Polysomnographic new hires and trainees under guidelines set forth by facility and associated accrediting agencies. Accountabilities Demonstrate professionalism and social skills appropriate to a healthcare environment by treating all patients in a friendly and professional manner Create and maintain a clean and professional working environment Confirm patient order by reviewing medical record, including any documentation provided by physician’s office and entries made by facility staff Resolve discrepancies in conflicting documentation to ensure appropriate study is performed Acquire and verify completion of all documents required by facility and specific hospital site Understand and adhere to all policies and procedures Provide detailed documentation throughout testing procedure Create and maintain an environment for sleep promotion by decreasing noise level, light exposure and ensuring appropriate room temperature Document circumstances that may interfere with sleep Communicate mechanical issues that may compromise the integrity of the collected data or diminish the patient's perception of experience in sleep center Maintain patient safety at all times Intervene as necessary for patient safety and provide therapies such as oxygen, and positive airway pressure Demonstrate competencies necessary to provide any testing and therapies Follow post-study procedures to assure proper data management and communication of study events including confirmation of accurate patient information on collected data Facilitate the completion of all post-study administrative duties such as completing questionnaires, logs (temperature, equipment cleaning), confirm documentation of patient satisfaction and pain assessment Promote patient satisfaction by assessing patient’s perception prior to departure and attempts to resolve any issues immediately Perform equipment care and maintenance and communicate issues according to policy Distribute HSAT devices, providing education and demonstration to patients Receive HSAT devices, upload and validate data, as well as communicate findings with management as needed Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards Follow infection control policies and procedures Check and respond to messages (voicemail and electronic communication) promptly and in a manner consistent with good patient care and business practice Demonstrate the ability and willingness to comply with all practices addressed in the employment offer letter Comply with occupational health requirements as assigned and in accordance with defined deadlines Attend and maintain documentation of orientations, meetings, training sessions, and conferences according to policy Comply with Facility and affiliated sites’ rules, regulations, guidelines and standards as well as applicable laws Required travel is one hour (using Google Maps as the standard) one way from home address at time of hire. Demonstrate the ability and willingness to staff facilities within one hour from the employee’s residence at the time of hire, including centers that begin operations after the initiation of employment. (This agreement may be altered at the discretion of the company to address various issues such as employee relocation. Valid agreements will be memorialized in writing by management and signed by the employee and an executive of the company. Professional Development Prior to the expiration current credential, submit recertification materials as required to the BRPT Provide a copy of RPSGT certificate to facility corporate office and continually provide updated copies as credentials expire Submit all required documents and fees to the state agency responsible for issuing Polysomnographic licenses in a timeframe that will prevent a lapse in licensure Obtain and manage continuing education credits as according to accrediting agency’s standard Provide proof of compliance with current polysomnographic licensure or other healthcare professional licensure that includes polysomnography in the scope of practice (ie: LPN, RRT) when performing services in a center for which licensure is mandated by the state Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. In the performance of this job, the employee may be exposed to infectious agents. Routine Work Hours Although hours may vary depending on the needs of the company, the hours of the above duties are generally met in 10 or 12 hour shifts starting between the hours of 7-9 pm and ending by 8 am. Studies are performed seven days a week. The exact hours and days or nights of each employee is assigned individually and memorialized in the employment letter. Work hours may be altered at the discretion of the company. Such an agreement will be memorialized in writing by management and signed by the employee and an executive of the company. Intended Progression A polysomnographic technologist may remain in this position indefinitely, but may also change positions as clinical needs change and opportunities arise.
