Alnylam Pharmaceuticals is Hiring a Director, Global Strategic Sourcing, Research & Development Near Cambridge, MA

This role is considered Hybrid.
OverviewThe Director of R&D Strategic Sourcing has responsibility for managing and optimizing external spending categories supporting the research organizations within the company. This role has responsibility for categories including lab consumables and equipment, in-vivo services, and other research services with an estimated annual spend of approximately $130M and growing. This role requires a dynamic, transformational, and hands-on leader with exceptional communications and influencing skills to elevate the level of sourcing value delivered to the organization. This role requires combining a high level of competency and experience in strategic sourcing with solid understanding of the biopharmaceutical discovery process.
This position is hybrid and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement category strategies to deliver cost reductions, increase supplier performance, quality, and innovations, and reduce supply base risk, all while supporting company diversity and sustainability goals.
  • Manage and implement a pipeline of sourcing initiatives supporting the category strategies in close collaboration with key business stakeholders.
  • Build a world-class research and development sourcing team with an operating model focused on stakeholder engagement, category management, sourcing projects, contract negotiations, supplier relationship management, risk management, supplier diversity and sustainability.
  • Establish and elevate relationships with executives and other key stakeholder leaders within the research and development organizations.
  • Support stakeholders delivering on departmental and corporate goals.
  • Building strong relationships with business partners including Financial Planning and Analysis, Finance Operations, Legal, Compliance, Human Resources, and other peers within the GSS organization.
  • Deliver sourcing initiatives with cost savings in support of value delivery goals.
  • Proactively identify, report, and mitigate risks and establish and execute plans for business continuity.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the biopharmaceutical industry specifically related to R&D technologies, innovations, and sourcing strategies.
  • Have knowledge of and experience leveraging artificial intelligence innovations within the context of the procurement profession.
  • Have experience leveraging advanced technologies supporting strategic sourcing business processes to continually improve department return on investment.
  • Lead relationship management programs with select suppliers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required, in a technical discipline preferred
  • Master’s degree (MBA, MS) desired.
  • Professional procurement certification (CPSM, MCIPS, etc.) desired.
  • 10 years of experience in the sourcing/procurement profession.
  • 3 years of experience in R&D procurement in the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • A track record of increasing savings delivery to world-class levels in multiple environments.
  • Experience working in a highly entrepreneurial, fast-paced, and lean environment.
  • Advanced-level skills in the following key competencies: communications, project management, relationship management, influencing negotiation, financial acumen, analytical skills, aptitude for technology, results focus, professionalism, and success in a matrixed environment.
  • Highly skilled in technical contract negotiation, including the ability to collaborate directly with Legal and business stakeholders in the creation, editing and implementation of contracts.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic plans relevant to research categories.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and influencing skills. Ability to interact with individuals at all levels internally and externally.
