Description
Hours: Sunday - Thursday, 11:00 p.m. - 08:00 a.m.
Traveling to specified locations to draw blood samples as required.
Gathering mandatory information from patients and verifying their identities by reading patient identification.
Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.
Disinfecting extraction sites using alcohol swabs.
Locating suitable veins and extracting blood samples using clean needles. Obtain blood specimen by performing venipunctures.
Cleaning puncture sites and covering them with gauze, cotton-wool balls, or sticking plasters.
Appropriately discarding used needles, syringes, and other items used during venipuncture procedures.
Appropriately storing blood samples in accordance with established guidelines.
Accurately labeling blood samples. Must provide patient’s name and date of birth.
Maintaining accurate patient records, which includes detailing any medical issues experienced by patients during venipuncture procedures that may affect the accuracy of test results.
Transporting collected blood samples to the laboratory for testing. Specimens may require being centrifuged and box appropriately to lab requirements before transporting long distances.
Determines the lab test(s) requested by medical provider by printing and reading the lab requisitions in lab portal or on paper requisitions.
Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures; observing isolation procedures.
Collects therapeutic drug-monitoring assays by collaborating with nursing personnel to ensure appropriate drug dose to collection time.
Maintains quality results by following department procedures and testing schedule; recording results in the quality-control log; identifying and reporting needed changes.
Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
Obtain patient draw information from the Clients Lab Portal requiring a minimum level of computer skills.
Identifies and communicates abnormal patient conditions by alerting supervisory personnel

Qualifications
Minimum High School Diploma
Must have a state valid driver’s license
If using personal vehicle must maintain current vehicle insurance.
